YouTube Backstage Review (Updated 2024): Is Patrick Shyu The Best YouTube Automation Guru?
Introduction To My YouTube Backstage Review
Patrick Shyu used to be a heavy-hitter within Facebook, but these days he's more well-known for his successful YouTube channel along with the online courses he offers.
The one program I'm gonna focus on today is his YouTube Backstage course, where he will teach you a thing or two on how to run a profitable YouTube channel.
I've been seeing a lot of "Faceless YouTube Automation" programs lately, and I was leery that Pat's program would be similar to those...but his seems to be a little better than those ones.
Pat seems to actually have decent experience to share from. He's got his own channel with over a million subscribers, and his advice seems to cover all sorts of different channels, which I think helps make it more realistic to launch a YouTube business.
And if you're reading this, then you probably saw one of Shyu's ads about his patented YouTube online marketing strategy, and now you're dreaming about ditching that 9-5 and going full time into a successful YouTube career.
Now you're looking through reviews to see if Patrick Shyu's legit or not - and you might even be checking out other industries like what Iman Gadzhi or Douglas James are offering to see what works best for you.
And you know what? I get it.
With the way the world's going, it seems like there's more uncertainty than ever. More and more people are looking for ways out of the rat race and into a world of financial freedom...
...but you know who else knows that? Scammers.
They'll say all kinds of pretty words to lure you in, just to leave you hanging without anything to show for all your time and money.
Fortunately, you're in the right place! I've been writing these articles for years now on everything from dropshipping niches to how to become a real estate investor, and after a while you definitely start to figure out who you can trust, and who's not worth your time.
So I'll give you a rundown on YouTube Backstage's "sample editing workflow", we'll see if Pat's private Facebook community is any good, and then we'll see if there's any online course out there that can really stack up against what he's offering.
Now, let's get rockin' with our YouTube Backstage review!
This YouTube Backstage review has been thoroughly researched with information and testimonials that are available to anyone in the public. Any conclusions drawn by myself are opinions.
- YouTube is a very popular platform, so that should mean your potential audience is large.
- Patrick has been very successful himself, which means you won't be taking advice from someone who has no idea what he's talking about.
- Given his background as a tech guy at Facebook, it may mean Patrick can help you on the tech side of YouTube as well.
- Barely any student reviews out there, which means you might feel a little vulnerable signing up.
- While there are millions of people out there on YouTube, that also means you'll have tons of rival channels!
- It often takes years to build up a following on YouTube, and that means you'll need a ton of patience.
Why Listen To UsMy name is Josiah, and this is my Dad, Joel.
Together, we make up the team here at Scamrisk.
If you’ll let me bother you for two minutes, I’d like to quickly explain why I’m even here writing this review.
In early 2020, I had just graduated from college & had no real career prospects.
I knew I was destined for something more, but I had no clue how I was going to make it happen.
I had this sinking feeling in my gut all the time… like the “big man upstairs” had accidentally given me the version of life where I’d be mediocre forever, instead of the one where I was, ya know – happy & fulfilled.
I had fiddled around with some different online businesses in college:
Some random MLMs, a bit of affiliate marketing, a (failed) dropshipping store or two, all the usual suspects.
Even my dad had been involved in MLMs back in the day… selling knives & other random nonsense people (probably) didn’t need.
All I really wanted was to find something that was going to actually work for me.
Maybe those things had worked for others, but for me it all turned up a fat “0” in the bank account department.
So I searched! And searched… and searched… and searched…
And eventually, I somehow stumbled upon a program that promised to help me build an income online (read about it here if you’re curious).
I didn’t really want to be “rich”.
The thought of making a reliable $5K per month & not having to worry about clocking in to a 9-to-5 ever again was all I needed.
Sure, there were people in the program doing high-6 and low-7 figures per year… but that wasn’t what I was out for.
I just wanted to provide freedom for myself, and if I was lucky, take my family along for the ride.
Fast forward a few days and a few phone calls & I was enrolled!
Here’s the first “money making website” I put up:
I built that site in 2020, and it still makes me $1,500 per month. It’s a basic 5 page website I built based on a template the program provides.
The best part to me? My dad and I get to do it all together!
So between the:
Is why I recommend local lead generation as my #1 business model for making money online.
Sure, it takes some work and dedication – but anyone that tells you that there’s a business out there that requires no work is selling you a lemon.
I’m not saying you need to sign up for the same program I did, but I would definitely recommend giving the business model a peek!
TLDR - What's The Verdict On YouTube Backstage
YouTube Backstage is one of Patrick Shyu's latest endeavors - and this time, he's branching away from the tech side of things and into the world of behind the scenes strategies over at YouTube.
This isn't one of those YouTube Automation courses, by the way. While it seems that he may cover that stuff in here as well, Shyu is genuinely interested in helping his students make some quality videos and doing it right.
That's where these other courses go wrong, in my opinion.
If you just go into YouTube strictly for making a bunch of money, then your mind might not be fully focused on making quality art or content (yes, there is a difference).
Instead of scraping together royalty-free garbage, Patrick actually has advice for you on how to connect with your audience, how to film properly, and then provides some advice on how to score points with the YouTube algorithm.
So, if you're a true creator who really wants to crush the YouTube game with funny skits or crazy sports compilations, then YouTube Backstage might be for you.
But if you're just looking for a hack to make some big money online?
You'll have to look somewhere else.
There's just way too much uncertainty with YouTube, and it can take years to build a solid audience to the point where you're making any money at all. It's just not something you should jump into unless you're REALLY committed to the grind.
On the other hand, if you wanna score some big bucks while breaking out of the system, then you really should try Digital Leasing instead. All you gotta do is drive traffic to help out local businesses, and their owners keep stacking cash in your hand!
The students seem extremely passionate about what they're doing - not just getting by, but creating their own future.
That said, if you'd like to hear some more about my Patrick Shyu Review, let's keep on rolling.
Who Benefits From YouTube Backstage...And Who Doesn't?
|Takes a long time to ever see a dollar.
|Level of Control
|YouTube can take down your channel, and constantly changes its algorithm.
|Ease of Implementation
|This depends on how handy you are with creating and editing videos.
|Just really hard to consistently make a living off YouTube these days.
Often people come across the best business model, but then they find out the guru is just a weirdo and doesn't work well with you. And then other times you find a super charismatic guru, but the business model isn't what it's made out to be.
With that in mind, YouTube Backstage might be for you if...
- You've always wanted to run a great YouTube channel
- You spend a lot of time on social media, so you'd like to try to make some money there
- You've tried other odd courses (like Mobile Site Sniper) and had a good time
On the other hand, it probably doesn't make sense to join Patrick if...
- You can't afford to wait years to see any money
- You are have read some negative articles about his firing from Facebook.
- You are more interested in scoring some cash than making videos

Lots of folks get into YouTube thinking they're gonna be the next Jake or Logan Paul...but just how easy it as a business model these days?
Well, first of all, let's remember that a lot of those kind of channels started up over 10 years ago - in some cases, over 20 years ago! They started at a time where competition was far less fierce, and algorithms were totally different.
And then there's the issue that some people face: even if you're really funny with your friends, the moment that camera's red light starts flashing...you just freeze up.
It's not as easy as it seems to be on camera! In fact, some people are more fearful of talking in front of people than dying!
But let's say you actually conquer all that, and you're ready to either hop in front of the camera, or maybe you decide to try something where you're not on camera much - or maybe at all!
You're gonna need something to stand out.
There's just a ton of channels out there these days, so you're gonna have to niche-down and try to be the best at something you're passionate about...and hopefully something that isn't oversaturated.
It looks like you'll have to grind out over a million views to earn $5,000...which, while possible, is super hard to do, and often takes years.
I will admit that Patrick Shyu seems to have been able to do this a bunch over the years, so he does have some more credibility than these other gurus who don't even have any views.
Lots of people think their new channel's gonna be a rocket ship to the moon, and then soon they find themselves in a sinking ship...but Digital Leasing could be a life preserver. Think of this method as like getting into Bitcoin back in the day.
Instead of trying to jump into an oversaturated market that takes years to see any money - if you ever do - how about getting into something that'll actually grow your bank account and give you some sweet financial freedom?
Who Is Patrick Shyu?
Patrick Shyu is known on YouTube as "TechLead", the name of his channel.
This Chinese-American is famous for working at Facebook, and then getting fired in 2019 after releasing a few controversial YouTube videos. After getting fired, he went even more viral for ripping on the company and making some bold proclamations against the tech industry.
While his former employers weren't happy about this, it did lead him to a big niche audience online - and now he wants to show you how to follow in his footsteps.
How Much Does YouTube Backstage Cost?
How much does YouTube Backstage cost?
It seems like there is currently a discount from $379 to $279, which seems like a pretty good deal.
What Is Patrick Shyu's Refund Policy?
It looks like Pat offers a 14 day refund for YouTube Backstage.
Personal Opinion On YouTube Backstage
So, how do I recommend you choose the right program?
- Make sure the guru vibes with you
- Think about if the business model is profitable
- Weigh out pros and cons vs other programs
I think Patrick Shyu actually offers a decent course here.
In fact, how about a quick 3 things I like about Shyu and his program:
- He's gone viral before, so he can actually help you
- Seems like he offers advice for all sorts of channels
- His experience with tech should help with the algorithm
...and, to be fair, 3 things I don't really like:
- It usually takes years before getting a decent audience
- Shyu can be offensive to some people
- You might be able to find tips like this for free
Is There A YouTube Backstage Scam Going On Here?
"YouTube Backstage scam" shows up a lot in search engines, as people are probably trying to be extra safe with their investment.
But is Patrick Shyu really running a scam?
A real scam doesn't offer you anything - no real good or service.
Shyu is a seasoned tech guy who knows how to go viral consistently on YouTube. If that's really what you're after, then go for it...but just know it's really hard work that takes many years.
But if you're after a cool payday instead of all that "working for free" stuff, how about you take all that time and effort and turn it into something that actually works and stacks cash in your hand?
Digital Leasing puts you in that driver's seat where you're in control, all while helping small businesses!
Think about it: you could even use the money from Digital Leasing into a way to invest in your YouTube channel without stressing about money...now we're getting somewhere.
What's Inside YouTube Backstage?
There are over 70 episodes with 6+ hours of content in Shyu's program, including topics like:
- Gear & Equipment
- Editing Videos
- Growth Strategies
- YouTube Tactics
- Business & Monetization
Some of the stuff in here is philosophical, but other areas like discussing gear and editing are very practical and could help you if you're really interested in YouTube.
