Shaq Net Worth (2022 Update): He’s More Than Just An NBA Player

Four-time NBA champion, Shaquille O’neal is everything. He has done very well for himself after basketball, and the sky is the limit.

With a jaw-dropping net worth of $400 million, he’s really done it all.

Shaquille O'Neal's Net Worth
But How Did He Make His Money?

The one thing that’s well-known about ultra high net worth individuals (UHNWs) – the folks worth at least $30 million USD – is that virtually ALL of them have some part of their fortune in real estate.

Many of the more famous rich people and “celebrity entrepreneurs” actually got their start in real estate. And that’s great for them! Not so much for us…

See, more millionaires are created during recessions than any other part of the economic cycle. Which is cool, except the last real recession was 2008, when real estate prices were in the tank and you could buy a whole neighborhood with $100,000.

Now, though, real estate prices are through the roof, and interest rates are skyrocketing too. So how does the everyday person start building a massive net worth in an economy like this one?

Have you considered Digital Real Estate?

The internet’s been around for decades, but the possibility of actually owning high-value pieces of property ON the internet is fairly new.

In other words, it’s a wide open playing field…but it won’t stay that way forever.

Here’s a quick summary of how Digital Real Estate works:

You invest a little money (maybe around $100) to either purchase or build a piece of “land” on the internet.

You specifically place this “land” in a high-traffic area, where lots of people pass through (just like traditional real estate, it’s all about Location, Location, Location).

The folks who pass through your “land” all happen to be looking for a specific product or service, so you “rent” your land to a business owner who happens to offer that product or service.

The business owner pays you $500 to $2,000 a month to “rent” your Digital Real Estate, because it helps them connect with their ideal customers.

Think of it like buying a strip mall, or an office space, just on the internet, for WAAAAYYY less money and headache.

It’s hard to only think about one thing when you hear about Shaquille O’Neal. I mean, the guy’s a legend – and I’m not just talking about his basketball career, but Shaq is just born different.

He’s not only an NBA player, but he’s an actor, a musician, a DJ, and he even has his podcast. You don’t only see him in reality shows on TV but also as a commentator on NBA games, and don’t be surprised when I say that he also dabbled in professional wrestling.

Am I done? No. Shaquille O’Neal’s net worth is the way it is because he’s a real business-minded type of guy. He’s been active in the real estate and stock market since the 1990s. In 2013, it cost him $5 million for a 1% stake in the NBA’s Sacramento Kings.

Speaking of Kings, Shaq is a franchise king. He owned 155 Five Guys restaurants at one point, 17 Auntie Anne’s, one Krispy Kreme, a Big Chicken restaurant in Las Vegas, a burger place in LA, and a CityPlex12 movie theater in New Jersey.

Did you know that he’s also affiliated with Papa John’s? Yes, the pizza! Most recently, he became one of the Board of Directors of Papa Johns, investing his own money in nine stores in Atlanta. He even has an $8.25 million deal as a brand ambassador.

No wonder Shaquille O’Neal’s net worth is $400 million.

early Life

Early Life Shaquille O'Neal

Shaquille Rashaun O’Neal was born on March 6, 1972, in Newark, New Jersey, to Lucille O’Neal and Joe Toney.

Toney had trouble with drugs and served time in jail when O’Neal was a baby. Because of this, they never had a relationship, so Shaq’s father gave up his parental rights to Phillip A. Harrison, who is now his stepfather.

Standing 7 feet tall, it’s no surprise that Shaquille O’Neal came from a tall family. His father and mother were both over six-footers. By age 13, Shaq already stood 6 ft. 6 inches.

Shaq led his team in high school to a 68-1 record for two years and a state championship by the time he was a senior. After high school, he joined the team at Louisiana State University and was named twice as an All-American and College Player of the Year.

Just right after junior year, he quit college to try and make it in the NBA and oh, he made it alright. I mean, he’s just only one of the best players in NBA history.

Shaquille ONeal Career

So, we know that he’s a legend. But how did he start becoming one? Well, Shaquille O’Neal was picked first overall by the Orlando Magic in the 1992 NBA Draft.

A year later, he was crowned Rookie of the Year and selected as an All-Star starter, a feat not done since Michael Jordan. Shaq helped the Magic and by the next year, they reached the NBA finals but lost to Houston Rockets.

Shaquille O’neal was a member of an Olympic gold medalist basketball team in Atlanta in 1996. But when tensions escalated among his coach, players, and the local Orlando media during the Olympics, Shaq signed a seven-year, $121 million contract to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

This united Shaq with a young Kobe Bryant, bringing together two of the game’s top stars on one squad. While it was a promising first few years with the Lakers, they were unable to win a title.

In 2004, Shaquille O’neal was moved to the Miami Heat and agreed to a five-year, $100 million deal with the team. The next year, the Heat defeated the Dallas Mavericks to win the team’s first championship and Shaq O’Neal’s fourth.

Shaq’s days of signing long-term contracts were over in 2008. That year, he moved to the Phoenix Suns, where he failed to reach the playoffs for the first time since his rookie season.

He was moved yet again and more one-year stints followed, with the Cleveland Cavaliers (where he played with LeBron James) and his last season with the Boston Celtics.

Shaq career didn’t only revolve around basketball. He was already exploring careers in the film and rap industry in the early nineties. He also went on to become a DJ and produced music. He released his first rap album, “Shaq Diesel,” in 1993, which became certified platinum.
