Let’s take a look at the dashboard Semrush provides for keyword research – Keyword Overview.

This keyword research tool provides a comprehensive report on any keyword which includes metrics like volume, search engine results page features (SERPs), volume trend, and so forth. Semrush gives you the Global Volume metric, which displays a keyword’s search volumes across all countries.

This allows you to make an informed decision on whether to compete in a given keyword.

You’ll also see relevant keywords and keyword variations and questions that people ask about the particular keyword. These metrics will help you choose and target keywords that will work for your business.

Next is the Keyword Magic Tool. This SEO tool is what you should use to discover keywords in your niche that are relevant to your brand.

Another feature of SemRush is Keyword Clustering. It will display a collection of keywords on your left sidebar. To dig deeper into the related keywords, you can click on any keyword.

There are three options for finding keywords for ads: broad match, phrase match, and an exact match. But, for SEO purposes you can just view the list of similar keywords.

The best part is you can quickly compare different keywords based upon these metrics. This tabular format makes analyzing this data easy and allows you to shortlist keywords.

This means that all your organic traffic insights can be consolidated and analyzed from one dashboard. Here, you’ll find a complete list containing keywords that drive your organic traffic.

Semrush is an excellent tool for keyword research and optimization for various purposes, such as content marketing, advertising, and search engine optimization.

On-Page SEO And Technical SEO

This tab within the Semrush SEO tool kit allows you to analyze both the technical and on-page SEO aspects of your website.

Site Audit is one of the most popular SEO tools in this category.

Semrush will crawl your website’s pages and flag problem areas, just as a search engine would.

Semrush provides a comprehensive site audit report, which will show you the overall health of the website and highlight any issues.

The Markup Report is one report I want to highlight. This gives you a snapshot of your markup usage and the implementation issues that you need to fix.

You can go through each of these issues one by one and then correct them for a higher score on your website’s overall health. This tool will be invaluable to agencies that track multiple clients’ websites.

The SEO Content Template is the next feature in this category. This will allow you to optimize the content of your website to increase search rankings.

Semrush On-Page SEO Checker offers useful suggestions for improving your on-page SEO. You can obtain semantically related keywords for your pages. Ideas to improve content length or readability, backlink prospects, as well as ideas to improve page SEO.

The Logfile Analyzer is another useful tool in Semrush’s SEO Toolkit. This tool will show you in detail what search engines see as they crawl your site.

Semrush also offers the Backlink Audit Tool. This tool is more useful than backlink analytics because it focuses on the identification of toxicity in your backlinks and how to improve it.

Semrush not only analyzes your backlinks but also assists you in building new ones with its Link Building tool.

It basically determines which prospects are most likely to be backlinked. You can then go through the prospect list and make outreach to gain backlinks.

The Bulk Analysis feature is useful if you need to analyze multiple domains simultaneously. You can add up 200 domains to the dashboard and view their backlinks.

Rank Tracking

Now that we have covered technical and off-page backlinks, let’s move on to the tool that will show you the results. Position Tracking is the tool that will display the results of your SEO efforts. This is located in your Semrush SEO software’s Rank Tracking section.

This basically analyzes your website’s ranking changes in all of your target keyword categories. You can see which keywords are ranking high for your website, and vice versa.

This tool is the best for providing a comprehensive overview of your website’s performance. The SEO initiatives could be responsible for any improvement you see.

Semrush also offers a Share of Voice (SoV metric) that allows you to see the market share that you have for a particular keyword.

You will also receive a Consolidation report, which shows you pages that are in competition with yours and can be merged together to improve rankings.

Next is HTMLrush Rank. This uses a proprietary algorithm and ranks the domains receiving the most organic search traffic. Semrush boasts a massive database that includes over 825,000,000 domains. You can use this data to analyze.

This feature is best used to compare your site with others.

Prospecting can also use it since you can identify websites with the highest paying traffic and the most targeted keywords. Overall, it’s an excellent competitor analysis tool that’s worth exploring.

Semrush Sensor is a new feature that tracks Google’s SERP volatility based on daily changes in ranking. You can use it for keeping up-to-date on algorithm changes and making necessary changes to your SEO strategy.

It is also possible to determine if your niche or industry is more volatile than the others, and what volatile keywords are in your target keyword ranking.

2. Advertising Toolkit

Semrush is well-known for its keyword and SEO functionalities. But, it also has powerful advertising tools. In this section, I will review some of these tools to help you with your paid search or Google Display Network (GDN), campaigns.

Market Analysis

Before you launch any campaign, you must first do your research. Advertising Research will help you to research the advertising strategies and competitors to improve your own.

Just enter the domain for your competitor, and Semrush provides all information about their advertising campaigns. Semrush will show you their paid searches rankings, ad histories, and more.

One of the most vital sections is the one on ad copy. This is where you will find inspiration and examples of winning creatives.

Domain Summary is one of the most fundamental tools in this toolkit. With it, you can find all the information about your competitor. You can see a complete overview of a website’s advertisement performance, target audience, and more.

PLA Research is a great feature for ecommerce businesses. This can be used to locate product listings for certain keywords and discover who your competitors are for these keywords.

This tool offers unparalleled information. It even shows you how many search queries are triggered by a competitor’s product listing ads.

Keyword Research

Keyword research is another crucial aspect in planning your paid campaigns. You can use the Keyword Magic, Keyword Gap tools to accomplish this.

To use the Keyword Gap, simply enter your domain along with those of your competition and click on “paid keywords.” The tool will analyze your paid keyword against those of competitors.

Keyword Grouping And Management

You need to do more than just find keywords when running paid campaigns. It is also important to clean up your keyword lists, and group keywords for your ads groups.

Semrush created a tool just for this purpose – PPC keyword Tool. It fulfills three main functions:

  • Collect Keywords – You can either import keywords from your existing lists or search the internet for new keywords that will be used in your paid campaign..
  • Manage and Optimize – This has advanced filters which you can use to clean out your list and eliminate irrelevant keywords. It offers options to organize keywords and group them for your ads
  • Remove Conflicting Keywords – It can help you eliminate conflicting keywords, so no keyword is used in your ad campaigns.

Ad Builder

Once you’ve done your keyword and creative research, it’s now time to start creating your ad copy. You can use this tool for both display and text ads.

3. Social Media Toolkit

Many people think of it only as an SEO tool with content marketing capabilities. But, that’s not all the software has to offer.

Semrush also includes a full suite of social media management tools to allow you to manage all social profiles from one location. This SemRush review will cover the various social media tools available.

Social Performance Analysis And Benchmarking

The Social Media Tracker tool by Semrush offers a visual overview of your social networks’ performance. It’s easy to track and manage accounts on multiple platforms using one interface.

Key analytics data are also available, including follower growth, engagement rate, number, and posts, among others.

Content Scheduling And Posting

With Semrush’s Social Media Poster, you can upload your posts to Semrush, and then schedule them to be published at specified dates and times. The tool will then post according to what you have set.

You can also set an automatic schedule and bulk upload posts so that you don’t need to manage your social media content manually.

It provides suggestions for the best times and also allows you to add UTM codes so that you can track your content better.

Trends Identification

The Social Media Poster tool also has an analytics section where you can get insights on your content’s performance.

You can identify trends on which content works for your audience and which doesn’t. You can also track your audience’s demographics and growth over time.

Facebook Post Booster

The Social Media Poster includes an analytics section that allows you to see insights about the performance and effectiveness of your content.

You can track trends to determine what content is popular and which does not. You can also track the demographics, growth, and changes in your audience over time.

Social Media Ads Creation

This new feature, which Semrush recently launched, is currently being beta tested. This allows you to manage and create ads for Instagram or Facebook.

It comes with several useful features that optimize and streamline your ad creation.

4. Content Marketing Toolkit

Semrush’s Content Marketing Toolkit can assist you in all aspects of content creation, distribution, and planning.

It can help you choose topics and analyze the performance of your content. It can provide competitive intelligence that will help you improve your content marketing strategy.

Let’s take a look at each feature.

Content Ideas

Topic Research is the first content marketing tool in Semrush. This powerful tool has many features that will help you to find the best topics for your content.

This tool is my favorite. I use it to plan and research content for my blog.

Content Optimization

Semrush also offers an SEO Writing Assistant. The SEO writing assistant acts as an editor online, correcting grammar mistakes and improving readability.

SEO Writing Assistant is different than other language editors.

You get almost all the same features, with a special focus on SEO. This tool allows you to improve your writing quality, and search engines will also consider its high-quality content.

It can integrate with popular platforms such as Google Docs or WordPress, so you can optimize your content while you are writing it.

Performance Analysis

Once you have created and uploaded content, you may now use the Post Tracking tool by Semrush to measure the performance of each post.

You can track the performance of up to 50 posts simultaneously. This includes posts of your competitors. These are the metrics that it displays:

Content Audit

The Post Tracking tool will only be able to track a certain number of posts. The Analyzer can provide a more complete view of the content’s performance.

It can analyze thousands and provide analytics data regarding their performance. It also offers suggestions as to which posts might need to be updated or rewritten.

Content Marketplace

Content Marketplace has been recently added to the content marketing toolkit of Semrush. It’s a platform that allows you to get on-demand content at a fair price.

You can buy different types of content at different price points or subscribe to their monthly, or annual subscription plans to enjoy discounted rates.

5. Competitive Research Toolkit

Semrush helps you not only improve your marketing strategy but also allows for spying on your competitors. Semrush will allow you to learn everything about your competitors’ websites and traffic sources.

Let’s examine and discuss the competitive analysis capabilities of Semrush.

Traffic Analytics

Semrush’s Traffic Analytics tool provides detailed insights into all key metrics for any website. Enter the domain name and hit enter to obtain traffic data for competitor research.

Keyword Gap Tool – Side-by-Side Domain Comparisons

This is what I consider the best feature of Semrush. You can view tons of competitive intelligence data in multiple places, but still not be able to get the right insights. Comparing data from different companies side-by-side is the best way for competitive analysis.

Semrush does exactly this. Semrush allows you to compare up to five domains side by side. It is possible to also compare subdomains subfolders and URLs.

Market Explorer

Market Explorer is another tool that is part of the CI add-on. You can use it for an overview of market trends or players.

Semrush Review: What’s The Final Verdict?

I’ve tried to include as many features as possible in my Semrush review. I hope you’ll now be able to see what it has to offer and decide if it is the right tool for you.
