How To Make Money On Audible

How To Make Money On Audible

Every entrepreneur dreams of building a successful business... but the tricky part has always been staying in the black.

According to Forbes, 80% of businesses fail.

The Audible affiliate program claims that you can make some passive income through spoken word entertainment – that’s right, making your own audiobook.

It’s innovative because it allows you to sell audio versions of books without doing any of the heavy work.

There is no order tracking or delivery of product purchases. There is no need to find the best strategies. There is no need to draw in traffic. There will be no trial and error, only proven methods…

…at least that’s what Jeff Bezos says.

But is any of it true?

Well, that's why we're doing this review.

But before we get into all that, I want to say this first...

DISCLAIMER:

This Selling On Audible Review review has been thoroughly researched with information and testimonials that are available to anyone in the public. Any conclusions drawn by myself are opinions.

PROS
  • Audible is known worldwide, which opens chances for more sales.
  • ACX provides full support and a complete guide to authors.
  • There is a free 30-day trial subscription.
CONS
  • Making audiobooks takes a lot of time.
  • I need to invest a large amount of money.
  • Sales are not guaranteed.

Why Listen To Us

My name is Josiah, and this is my Dad, Joel.why listen us

Together, we make up the team here at Scamrisk.

If you’ll let me bother you for two minutes, I’d like to quickly explain why I’m even here writing this review.

In early 2020, I had just graduated from college & had no real career prospects.

I knew I was destined for something more, but I had no clue how I was going to make it happen.

I had this sinking feeling in my gut all the time… like the “big man upstairs” had accidentally given me the version of life where I’d be mediocre forever, instead of the one where I was, ya know – happy & fulfilled.

Anyway…

I had fiddled around with some different online businesses in college:

Some random MLMs, a bit of affiliate marketing, a (failed) dropshipping store or two, all the usual suspects.

Even my dad had been involved in MLMs back in the day… selling knives & other random nonsense people (probably) didn’t need.

All I really wanted was to find something that was going to actually work for me.

Maybe those things had worked for others, but for me it all turned up a fat “0” in the bank account department.

So I searched! And searched… and searched… and searched…

And eventually, I somehow stumbled upon a program that promised to help me build an income online (read about it here if you’re curious).

I didn’t really want to be “rich”.

The thought of making a reliable $5K per month & not having to worry about clocking in to a 9-to-5 ever again was all I needed.

Sure, there were people in the program doing high-6 and low-7 figures per year… but that wasn’t what I was out for.

I just wanted to provide freedom for myself, and if I was lucky, take my family along for the ride.

Fast forward a few days and a few phone calls & I was enrolled!

Here’s the first “money making website” I put up:

why listen us gif

I built that site in 2020, and it still makes me $1,500 per month. It’s a basic 5 page website I built based on a template the program provides.

The best part to me? My dad and I get to do it all together!

So between the:

  1. Ease of reaching $5-$10K per month in income online

  2. Straightforward-ness of the system to do it

  3. Fact that I get to do it w/ my family

Is why I recommend local lead generation as my #1 business model for making money online.

Sure, it takes some work and dedication – but anyone that tells you that there’s a business out there that requires no work is selling you a lemon.

I’m not saying you need to sign up for the same program I did, but I would definitely recommend giving the business model a peek!

Sell On Audible: Overview

There are countless money making programs floating around the internet.

Why?

Because for every problem that exists, someone claims to have the solution.

And that solution is usually some oddball money-making system that tells you how to turn a casual interest – or maybe something you’re super passionate about – into sustainable, reliable income.

Just like the ability to create audiobooks with Sell On Audible.

Here’s the hard truth, though…

Most of these programs:

  • Take way more time than you’re led to believe
  • May have hidden fees
  • Require you to buy multiple upsells in order to get the “real” information

But most importantly, a lot of these programs just don’t scale.

“Scale” means once you do the work to make a little money, it should get easier to make more money, not harder.

The problem is, most programs out there make it hard to make money at first, and even harder to keep making money.

In other words, you might be able to make some money in the beginning, but it won’t be sustainable and you’ll end up getting discouraged.

This is the exact opposite of passive income.

When income is truly passive, you do the work upfront, but then you set it and forget it. The money gets made whether you’re working or not. It’s not directly tied to the hours you put in.

passive income

So, what if there was a way you could build a passive income stream that’s actually passive?

An income stream that doesn’t require:

  • Inventory
  • Selling to friends and family
  • Selling to strangers
  • Recruiting people
  • Dealing with questionable products that weigh on your conscience

An income stream that brings in consistent revenues every single month (from a couple thousand dollars to well over $10,000)?

An income stream you could actually build in your spare time, and grow as large or as small as you want to, without having to spend hours a day chasing, selling, or managing anything?

If that sounds like something you’d be interested in, check out Digital Leasing.

TESTIMONIAL - Still Getting Paid

This is nothing like selling on Audible, and that’s probably a good thing.

However, if you’d still like to know more about Audible, keep reading.

What Is Audible?

Selling On Audible What Is Audible

Audible, Amazon's go-to platform for spoken word entertainment, allows you to make money narrating audiobooks, create and sell your own audiobooks using the Audiobook Creation Exchange, or join the Audible affiliate program. Members get access to countless audiobooks while discovering ways to generate passive income with audio content.

With more than 3,000,000 audiobook titles ranging from much-loved classics to fresh releases and original podcasts, Audible is the world’s largest producer and seller of audiobooks.

Audible is considered superior to other audiobook distributors like iTunes and Google Play with an impressive group of celebrity and professional narrators and a wide array of unique features.

Selling On Audible Membership Plans

Audible offers a free 30-day trial with a free audiobook. The audiobook could be one of the classics or an Audible original. If after 30 days, you decide Audible is not for you, you can cancel your membership. Otherwise, you can buy a monthly subscription to Audible.

The price of the Audible Platform membership plan ranges from $22.95 per month to $229.50 per year, depending on your monthly plan.

What Is The Audible Self-Publishing Platform?

aud4

Audiobook Creation Exchange or ACX is the self-publishing platform of Audible. Working on ACX is as simple as signing up, claiming your book, filling out the details, and uploading the files.

ACX website also offers the following services:

  • A matching service for authors and narrators.
  • The quality control and approval of audio quality before sale on Audible.
  • Delivery of the book to Audible, Apple Store, and Amazon.
  • Calculation and payment of royalties.

No need to worry about the navigation! ACX exists to make you feel at home.

How Can I Produce Audio Files For My Audiobook?

Selling On Audible Creating Audio Files

In Audible, you have two options when it comes to Audiobook production. These are:

Recording An Audiobook Yourself

In this option, you will need the proper equipment and software to narrate your book, which will cost you less than $200.

Next, you have to allot time to edit your audio files. You listen to the entire book and examine each audio file. You can now upload your audiobook after you fix and re-record the poor audio spots.

Hiring A Professional Narrator To Record Your Audiobook

In this option, you will hire a professional narrator for a finished audio recording of your book. ACX has a database that can connect you to professional narrators.

The cost to have your audiobook produced by a professional depends on the length of your audiobook. Many ACX actors accept an upfront fee of no less than $250 per finished hour of audiobook projects. I recommend using $225-$300 for the per finished hour cost to calculate the narrator cost.

Choose the right audiobook production deal for you in Audible!

How Can I Sell Audiobooks On Amazon And Audible?

Selling On Audible Selling On Amazon and Audible

In Audible, the best platform to sell audiobooks is through ACX.

With ACX, you have the option to sell books exclusively on Amazon, iTunes, and Audible and receive 40% of the royalties. Otherwise, you have the option to choose the non-exclusive distribution of your audio books and receive 25% of the royalties. In this option, you cannot split royalties with the producer.

Selling books on Amazon saved many authors from income crash. This might work for you, too!

How Much Can I Make By Selling Audiobooks On My Amazon Account?

Selling On Audible How Much Can I Make Selling Audiobooks On Amazon

Audiobook production takes courage, skills, talent, and money. But if you have all, you definitely need to try making audiobooks.

Nowadays, sales of audiobooks are booming! As per Audio Publishers Association, the audiobook industry has reached double-digit revenue growth since 2012.

It does sound tempting – having your own account where you can operate the Audible Creator Program, as your very own audiobook narrator. All sorts of other spoken word entertainment, your own audio content, narrating audiobooks or other Audible products in general…

…sounds almost too good to be true.

According to some authors who self-published in Audible, you can earn at least $1,102 in one month if you hit the goal of selling 1,000 audiobooks in a month.

However, your income will still depend on the number of audiobooks you sell. One of the best ways to do this is to market your audiobooks through different promotion strategies.

What Does The Internet Have To Say?

What Does The Internet Have To Say

Let's take a look about what folds on Reddit have to say about Audible...

Why does audible need to be so expensive?

Why cant it work like netflix or a prime subscription? there are so many things i need to do which are uninstmulating id like to read a book while doing activities but thats impossible.

I know audiobooks take alot of work, to find a good voice actor, and read it at a good pace; however they cant POSSIBLY be as hard as making a Netflix series, the only thing i can think of is that, audible needs to be expensive becuase alot less people use it compared to netflix, but if they made the price super affordable ALOT more people would use it, so my question is why cant they just lower the price? - Davidgopaint

Here are a few replies...

"Scribd is what you're looking for. Between that and Libby, I have plenty of audio books to listen to." - JeanVigilante

"I had Scribd for a while and it was a shocking mess, sorry.

There's Librivox for public domain (old) books read by volunteers, and I have also made diy audiobooks: You get an ebook/text version and set a screen reader on it." - KinittingMum416

"Man, I remember when audiobooks used to be $60 and dozens of cassettes. This doesn't excuse current pricing but it's certainly gotten WAY cheaper over time." - CrazySteiner

Next, let's see what users have to say on Trustpilot...

"I have used Audible app two years. I really joy that. I have a one credit at a one month but I can download the included books so much I want. In one month I have listen more than 134 hours only one credits! Included books are really good and interesting.

Most of books are in english but It is okay to me. Audible is easy to use, budget. Only two times I need to take a contact to customers service and both times they answer me inside couple hours and they are really helpfull and cindly!!

I don't want to stop this ever! I use also Kindle app. It is also really good. I can find there lot of interesting books which I couldn't find anywhere else." - ajma.a

"I love this app. The problem is audibles customer service. I signed up and thought I was signing up for the free month and the free Amazon credit. When it didn’t work properly I contacted audible who said to cancel my account and contact them in one month and they would more than happy to assist in resigning up and getting the free credits. So I did. The next month when I contacted them I was ignored. I emailed over 5 times to them and still nothing three weeks later I’m still being ignored. Had to resign up again and not get any of the credits. I am very unhappy with audibles customer service. Shame on you audible." - Ryan Ducharme

"I cancelled after a free offer of credits but they kept billing even though I had a screenshot confirming cancellation. It took 15 mins on the phone to fix this and get a refund - for 14 mins he said he couldn’t find any record of Audible taking payment. Not worth the hassle!" - Michael Davies

Finally, let's look at BBB.

Even though Audible does have an A+ rating on the BBB, it's not accredited.

"Several times either my wife or I have inadvertently ordered Audible versions of books when our intention was to obtain a Kindle version. We had a closed account with Audible. Contact with Audible twice within 24 hours is simply resulted in being told that their policy is not to reverse the charges unless you reopen your account (i.e. pay a monthly fee again). I already have books that I don't have time to listen to. The last such charge did not even result in a downloaded book!"

Business Response: "I spoke with the customer. I refunded all three titles for the customer. The customer received a $23.92 refund as well as one credit was restored to his Audible account. I emailed the customer a confirmation of all of this information."

"Business obtained my credit card info without consent and made unauthorized charges."

Business Response: "I have been in touch with the customer via email and via telephone. We have had scheduled follow up calls and have been in constant communication. I am currently investigating how the customer's credit card information was used. To do this I am in contact with members of other teams from Audible that the customer spoke with. My research is on going and the customer has been informed of every single step I have taken as I have taken it."

"Audible makes the process of cancelling impossible. Twice I have cancelled via the online channels and both times, they continued to charge me like nothing happened. The first time, I assumed I didn't do something right, but the second time I had a second person confirm that it went through. Then, a couple weeks later and I got charged again. Suddenly customer service is saying cancellations can ONLY be handled over the phone... which is not legal under ********** law (where I live). I just want my money back and to be done with this."

Business Response: "The customer's account was successfully cancelled on 11/6/22 and their 11/3/22 membership charge was refunded in the amount of $14.95. The last usage on the account occurred on 10/17/22 when an audiobook was purchased using a membership credit."

As you can see, Audible isn't without its share of complaints from the BBB... but to their credit, they do make it a point to set things right.

Is Audible A Scam?

Scam or Legit

So, is selling on audible a scam?

I don't think so. In fact, if you have a good audio book, then you can make money with this program, but it’s definitely not as easy as it sounds.

There’s a ton of work to be done upfront, no real guarantee of success, and – most importantly – it doesn’t scale.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with front-loading the work and making the money later.

But if you’re grinding it out for 3 months and then your reward is being forced to grind it out for another 9 months before seeing any “real money,” well…that’s not a great deal, is it?

What if, instead, you could do that same 3 months of work (in your spare time), and your reward was a $500 to $2,000 payment that came in every single month?

And what if you actually didn’t need to wait 3 months? What if you could get started today and have your first payment in a week?

And what if you could double it next week?

Well, that’s the power of Digital Leasing.

And you can legitimately do this from anywhere. It’s a true lifestyle business.

Your laptop and an internet connection is all you need.

Some of the most successful students in this program run their entire 6-figure businesses from:

  • A camper in the middle of the woods
  • A beach chair on the water in Mexico
  • A small villa in Greece

TESTIMONIAL - Saying Goodbye To Our Jobs

They’re able to travel around, living their lives first, and focusing on their income second.

Because even if they stop working for an extended period of time, the money keeps coming in.

So adventure, memories, and experience are the top priority.

And they never have to worry about how to pay for the next trip, or consider asking for time off.

Final Thoughts

Selling On Audible Audible Final Thoughts

If you’ve been one of the existing audible members for any of time you probably have experienced some perks like their audible free trial, automatically renew, variable narration speeds, the ability to listen offline, as well as switch devices.

For full membership price, with your amazon account browse listen to the audiobook market. Amazon prime members can create one other audible account and enjoy the other audible membership benefits.

If you’re trying to make money with audible though, it’s much tougher than you’d think. Competition is everywhere and the money isn’t all that worth it.

That’s why we still have Digital Leasing as our #1 recommendation.

Are There Alternatives To Selling Audiobook On Audible?

alternatives

Yes, there are plenty of other business models to choose from if you want to pursue this making money online. Here are just a few:

Our #1 Way To Make Money Online In 2024

Digital Leasing

Our review team has spent months researching, reviewing, and vetting dozens of business models and thousands of programs.

While there may be no “perfect business”, the research IS conclusive:

Digital Leasing is the #1 online business model for those just starting out.

Whether you’ve never made a dollar online, or you’ve been in this space for a while but never really “made it,” Digital Leasing is for you.

Why?

1) It’s Flexible: got an hour a day? You can do this. Ready to drop everything else and dive in full time? You can do this. Yes, the more time you put in, the faster you see results. But even with a little time each day, you can move the needle in a Digital Leasing business.

And because this system is so flexible, you don’t have to constantly be working to make more money. It’s called PASSIVE INCOME because if you stop working, the money doesn’t.

Imagine taking 3 months off to just tour around Europe, rent a cabin in the woods to write a book, hike the Appalachian Trail, or live on the beach and surf all day.

This is only possible if you have an income stream that’s not tied to your time.

TESTIMONIAL - JUMP ALL IN

2) You Own & Control EVERYTHING: With audiobook publishing, you don’t really own anything. You have no control over the quality of products. You don’t even own your “business”.

Look at the fine print for most of the agreements folks sign when they join one of these companies. At any point, the company can change your commission structure, reduce your profit margins, or kick you out entirely.

TESTIMONIAL - Feeling Blessed

With Digital Leasing, you own the assets, which means you have all the power and all the control.

3) Little To No Startup Costs: It’s possible to get into Digital Leasing with zero dollars upfront. Because, using the strategies outlined in this program, you can get a client to pay you BEFORE spending a penny out of your own pocket…even before you do any work.

Even without getting paid in advance, you can have your first Digital Rental Property up, running, and generating profits for less than $100.

TESTIMONIAL - Scott Lead Gen

4) Easy To Duplicate: Ok, here’s the best part: once you have your first Digital Rental Property up and running, you can literally DOUBLE your income with a few clicks, a couple keystrokes, and a single phone call (and you don’t actually need the phone call).

Remember: each Digital Rental Property is worth $500 to $2,000 a month in semi-passive income (over 95% profit). Every time you decide to create another one and increase your income, it gets easier.

Because you have more knowledge, more experience, more results, and more momentum.

If you wanted to double your income with Sell On Audible, you’d probably need to double the number of hours you spend working. Because, again, this program doesn’t scale.

TESTIMONIAL - Done Deal

5) Make Money Helping Real People: With Digital Leasing, you’re actually helping people by solving your clients’ biggest problem:

Small, local businesses need more customers, and with Digital Leasing, you are unleashing a flood of happy, paying customers for these businesses.

You make money by helping them make money.

Not a big, faceless corporation either…a small business owner who’s using that money to put food on the table for their family, start a college fund for their kids, or take care of a sick parent.

Once you see how Digital Leasing makes a real impact in the lives of real people, you’ll sleep like a baby with a big smile on your face.

BOSS OF MY FUTURE

Now, the choice is yours. You could continue browsing, looking at opportunities like Selling On Audible which could one day make you money.

You could continue researching, never making a decision.

OR, you could take a look inside, consider what you really want, and join a program that makes your dreams a reality. At the same time, joining a community of over 2,000 successful students that are living life on their own terms thanks to Digital Leasing.

A consistent, reliable, semi-passive stream of income that doesn’t depend on you or your time to keep producing profits.

All while genuinely helping real people who are grateful and happy to pay for it.

If this sounds more like what you want out of life (or if you just want some nice side income), click here to learn more about Digital Leasing.
