Ryan Deiss Review: What Can You Learn From Him?
Have you been considering digital marketing to boost your company’s revenue?
If you are, you’ve most likely stumbled upon Ryan Deiss.
Deiss is a popular figure in modern marketing, with multiple business ventures and products to his name.
But does he really know what he is talking about?
If he does, can he prove this?
It’s one thing to talk about your success, but another to back it up with proof.
In this honest review, you will read in-depth details about Ryan Deiss to find out if he is really someone you can trust.
We’re going to review Digital Marketer to decide if it really is the best [course type] course out there.
We’ll talk about whether Social Media Marketing is the right online business for you.
At the end, I’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions regarding Digital Marketer and SMMA in general.
And most importantly, I’ll show you the exact system I used to build my own internet marketing business to over $40,000 a month in mostly passive income.
This system made me swear off SMMA for good, because it uses some of the same skills in a much more powerful and profitable way!

1. Who Is Ryan Deiss?
Ryan Deiss identifies himself as a marketer who first became an entrepreneur and then an investor.
His website is on-point when it says that “Ryan Deiss and his companies basically own the internet.”
But at the very essence of his work still lies on being a marketer.
Ryan Deiss, who has been featured on esteemed industry blogs such as Adweek, Entrepreneur, and Forbes, began his marketing career in 1999, when he made his first transaction in his college dorm.
At that time, internet was just in its early stages. And Ryan was lucky enough to have access to it.
He had little intention of becoming an entrepreneur back then, but then he met someone and wanted to give her a bracelet which he couldn’t afford.
He had this brilliant idea of starting in eCommerce by creating a website where he could sell some eBooks.
He continued with the business until his graduation and had saved enough to propose to his girl.
He managed a few eCommerce websites in college, which gave him a steady stream of income.
Thanks to this stable stream of income, Ryan is now married to his beautiful wife, had a son, a debt worth $250k until he turned 26.
He once asked himself this very important question, “How can I get clients on a consistent and timely basis?”
Deiss’ philosophy was to make things simple and easy, including his business practices.
Like they say, the rest is history.
Ryan Deiss, now 40, is also the best-selling author of two digital marketing books that cover all of the essentials on how you can make money online.
Ryan Deiss’ net worth is undisclosed, but one of his firms, Digital Marketer, makes around $10 million annually.
He also promotes and owns a number of companies, including:
- Digital Marketer
His companies hire thousands of people across the globe, and he never stops inventing and innovating ideas about traditional marketing theories.
Customer Value Optimization is his most popular theory, which has helped many firms increase their sales.
(Caveat: This is a sales funnel.)
Finally, Ryan has successfully pulled together a community of digital marketers, entrepreneurs, and investors who would like to collaborate and grow their companies.
In what way? By launching and holding The Traffic and Conversion Summit.
It’s like Comic-Con’s marketing version.
So, yeah, Ryan does have a lot under his belt.
2. Ryan Deiss: Digital Marketer
Deiss is the genius behind Digital Marketer, one of the most popular marketing websites in the world today.
Digital Marketer’s primary goal is to create more leads and convert them into loyal customers.
Digital Marketer says you won’t need to build from zero.
The bulk of the legwork was already accomplished for you by Digital Marketer, providing you with action plans and recommendations to increase and drive traffic to your website, convert that traffic into qualified leads, and scale up your business.
Digital Marketer offers premium courses and software including free digital marketing guides and tutorials.
Playbooks and courses cost anywhere between $20 and $400.
2.1. Digital Marketer Workshops
Almost every workshop today is done online, and Digital Marketer has followed suit.
You can choose from 18 on-demand workshops starting at $295. All workshops are geared towards digital marketing practitioners.
These carefully designed workshops examine a variety of techniques and methods that have been effective for other marketing professionals, where you can get helpful tips as you go along the training.
These workshops, however, are structured to cater to marketers who are just starting out in the industry, not company owners.
2.2. Digital Marketer Certifications And Courses
Deiss eventually opened his courses to the public, though they were initially for the internal staff.
The Digital Marketer courses explore a broad range of marketing subjects, including:
- Content Marketing
- Search Marketing
- Email Marketing
- Digital Marketing
You can choose from a total of 11 accredited training courses. Prices start at $495.
If you are pursuing a degree, it would be a great addition on your resume to boost your overall market value.
I’m not so sure though how useful it is for business owners. I feel that it is more fitting for skilled marketers.
2.3. Digital Marketer Playbooks
Don’t we all love checklists?
Checklists, however, do not actually show us how something is done, rather, they simply inform us of what needs to be done.
Ryan’s Playbooks are a cross between step-by-step guides and checklists.
Digital Marketer offers comprehensive checklists, otherwise known as Playbooks, whether you’re creating new campaigns or maximizing your sales copy.
On their website, you will find 15 Playbooks which cost $27 each.
Honestly, in my opinion, I find them a bit unimpressive. They’re only great if you’re a total beginner.
You can get them for free elsewhere.
2.4. Digital Marketer Membership Programs: DM Insider
Deiss’ Digital Marketer provides three membership programs apart from the workshops, courses, and step-by-step guides.
The program is inclusive of the following:
- 30+ marketing guides
- Weekly newsletters
You’ll also be invited to live workshops where you can interact with the experts and fellow students on a weekly basis.
Furthermore, the Insider Memo, a weekly newsletter, gives you a chock-full of content designed to assist your business’s development.
All these are at no additional cost!
2.5. Digital Marketer Membership: Digital Marketer Lab Plus
If you want to improve your skills, Lab Plus is a good place to start.
You’ll get a variety of marketing tools, including swipe files and training templates, and the following:
- Courses and certifications
- Access to a private Facebook Group
Digital Marketer Lab Plus costs $95 a month. It offers 14-day free trial.
Quite frankly, I will avoid this one.
Digital Marketer does offer valuable content, but surprisingly, they offer their best content for free!
Paid services are mostly for more experienced advertisers, not company owners.
2.6. Digital Marketer membership: Digital Marketer Lab ELITE
Ryan Deiss understands the fast-paced nature of the marketing industry.
Ranking on Google was once an easy thing, and advertisements were less expensive than a can of Coke.
In this day and age of social media, however, influencers, and the whole consumer base switching online, the way things work now are quite unlike in the past.
This part is where Digital Marketer Lab ELITE steps in.
It assures you that you will be given a chance.
This program provides you with a documented approach that demonstrates how to:
- Obtain clients
- Keep track of metrics that are actionable.
- Make scorecards for contacts and leads
In a nutshell, Ryan will show you how you can build your own sales funnel.
What I don’t appreciate about Lab ELITE is that it takes some fairly basic ideas and makes them appear groundbreaking.
People use sales funnels because they need them in their businesses. They are used to automate the acquisition and retention of customers.
In a nutshell, sales funnels generate revenue for us.
I do like the 90-day marketing plan but the price is not what I’d expect – it’s too expensive for what it gives.
Lab ELITE costs $295 a month – quite expensive for what it brings to the table, if you ask me.
2.7. Digital Marketer HQ
Digital Marketer HQ was created for the internal team’s training.
This is great if you have a team in place because this platform would give them an advantage in bringing in more leads and converting them into customers.
Digital Marketer HQ addresses the following topics:
- Automation of training
- Marketing news and alerts
- Planning and strategy
- Advice on Implementation
Simply put, the Digital Marketer team will provide training for your team, but you must contact them to arrange for a quote.
One warning, though: expect a costly price tag for this.
3. Ryan Deiss: Funnel Blueprint 2.0
Ryan Deiss is an expert on funnels. Indeed, he has spent millions perfecting them.
One of his training products, Funnel Blueprint 2.0, allows you to access his tried and tested funnels at an incredible price, and it can help improve your chances of success a great deal. Ryan, himself, guarantees it!
When you register, you will get the following benefits:
- 21-Day Quick Start Funnel training and template to help you launch your first customer acquisition funnel. This is a great place to start if you need one.
- Comprehensive 6-module “watch over my shoulder” key strategy trainings in which each funnel type is examined in great detail to help you implement the correct funnels depending on your objectives. You will be shown how to effectively execute your conversion funnel in this section.
- 13 pre-built funnel templates according to the best and top conversion funnels from his various businesses and holdings.
- All checklists, including email templates, landing page templates, flow maps, and swipe files in the template library for you to know precisely how to execute each funnel.
- Digital Marketer’s certification as a “Funnel Optimization Expert” valued at $500.
- And a lot more!
4. Ryan Deiss: Books
Deiss has since written two best-selling books on digital marketing.
4.1. Ryan Deiss: The Invisible Selling Machine Book Review
The end goal of running a business is to make money even while you’re sleeping.
This is entirely possible because of automation.
Ryan Deiss discusses how to do it in his book, The Invisible Selling Machine. He says that your sales funnel needs to be automated in order for it to continue to function even if you’re asleep.
Ryan doesn’t name it a sales funnel anymore because for him, it’s an obsolete term, but he does discuss the customer life cycle’s 5 phases.
Then he goes on to explain how to simplify each critical conversion phase through automation so that you can get consumers to buy from you even though you’re not at work.
Needless to say, the whole scheme is based on email marketing, which gives you one of the highest ROIs of any marketing tool ($44 for every $1 spent).
The are mixed reviews for The Invisible Selling Machine on Goodreads which are based on the user’s level of expertise.
The Machine can come in handy if you’ve never heard of sales funnels before.
However, if you’ve had your company for quite sometime (or following this post for a while), you won’t be left speechless.
4.2. Ryan Deiss: Digital Marketing For Dummies Book Review
Ryan Deiss is the co-author of the book, Digital Marketing for Dummies.
It’s a book, like the rest of the ‘for Dummies’ series, designed to explain digital marketing’s fundamental principles to those who are new in the industry.
Your digital marketing strategy must be both relevant and top-notch – this is the central concept of Deiss’ Digital Marketing.
With the trends of digital marketing evolving almost daily, adapting is the word you need to be acquainted with.
It is a successful digital marketing crash course, from Ryan Deiss’ SEO and SEM perspective to other explanations and strategies.
Once more, pay close attention to any references to systems for converting customers. Yes, he means sales!
Similarly, there are also mixed reviews about Goodreads for Digital Marketing for Dummies.
While Ryan is one of the pioneers in digital marketing, his strategies and techniques are now commonplace.
And if they’re unfamiliar to you, believe me when I say you can get the same information elsewhere for free.
So if I were you, I’d cross this out in my list for now.
5. Ryan Deiss: Blueprint For Branding
Deiss used to have sales funnel blueprints.
They are no longer in stock. Instead, he has this branding course called, “Architect a & A Brand that Builds Authority and Actually Increases Sales, otherwise known as Branding Blueprint.”
This is divided into four lessons which is under four hours long.
Deiss hopes that at the end of the course, you will have created for yourself an online brand and effectively improved your sales.
The thing is, “How?”
Below are the topics in Deiss’ Branding Blueprint:
- Branding and Positioning
- 5-step System for Reverse-Engineering Authority
- “Soul Scaling”
- Identification of Authority Amplifiers
- Using Emotions and Direct Response to Build Connection with Your Audience
He guarantees that you’ll learn how all these are done while keeping your funnels in sync, for them to convert more.
Honestly, I believe this is a reasonable course.
It will help you start focusing on your copy writing and branding skills especially if you’ve no idea what they’re about.
You can get Ryan’s Branding Blueprint for $295, but the final decision is yours to make.
6. Ryan Deiss Podcast
Are you too busy to take certification classes, online courses, and read books? Still unsure if all those are worth your money?
Well, I do believe Ryan’s Digital Marketer and free resources are superior anyway, including podcasts.
Ryan Deiss does not really have his own podcast, but his Digital Marketer website features two podcasts that are helpful and insightful, much like the blog.
7. Are Ryan Deiss And Digital Marketer Worth It?
It’s a resounding big YES!
The free resources alone are incredible. I would always check on the website if anything has changed.
On the other hand, I do not believe the paid subscription is particularly beneficial to business owners.
I’m still upset by Deiss’s failure to note that there is a very simple way to automate the sales funnels.
You can certainly make money with Digital Marketer, but if you’re gonna put in the amount of grueling work to become a Social Media Marketer (which, trust me, isn’t easy), you might as well bring in some REAL money while you’re learning the ropes.
The program that helped skyrocket my online business to $40,000+ per month teaches some of the same SMMA skills, but shows you how to monetize them in a much, MUCH more profitable way.
What Is Our Top Recommendation For Making Money Online In 2021?
Our review team has come across a program in the real estate industry that is next level!
Although it’s not real estate in the traditional sense, it’s all digital.
Where Digital Marketer falls short is in scalability.
You can’t realistically expect to be able to set up a bunch of different Social Media Campaigns and maintain them throughout all hours of the day.
It just takes too many resources (money included) for any regular person to bootstrap.
But what if you could make even more money off of little local websites without having to spend all your day monitoring different campaigns?
With this digital real estate program, you can profit off LOCAL traffic to your website every single day!
Sound too good to be true?
Of course it does!
But it isn’t…in fact, business owners wish they had this skill!
All you have to do is build and rank a LOCAL website and forward the jobs off to a business owner in town, you could even email it to them!
This works for literally any service based business, tree service, plumbing, towing, etc.
How do you get paid and how much?
Simple, after you forward the jobs off to a business owner and he makes some money off of them, you simply ask to make the deal beneficial for each other.
A fair price to charge per lead, depending on the industry is 10-20%…let’s just use the tree service industry for example and go by worst case scenario.
Let’s say you build and rank the site and only 10 jobs a month come in. The average tree service job is anywhere from $500-$2000!
That means at bare minimum you have an asset worth $500 a month!
See why they call it digital real estate now?
That’s a rent payment.
The great thing is how easy it is to scale. You don’t have to worry about various CPC’s setting off different campaigns in the red at different times.
Back to Digital Marketer, why land a small $500 where $250 automatically goes to ad spend…when you could clear all $500 of that in profit?
This one actually allows you to collect HUGE FLAT RATE DEALS. Truly passive income!
The training program takes making money online to a whole other level. The owner of the program walks you through how to build and rank a site hand in hand, with the occasional voice over when he is sharing his screen.
You will learn the importance of keywords, website name, how to send call notifications via email, backlinking, etc.
Once the training program is completed you will also have access to a Facebook group much better than the Digital Marketer group in our opinion. This group is much more active.
Unlike Digital Marketer, where you’re getting maybe $250 per month, you could be getting 10-20X THAT.
A business will always want more leads and another job. In fact it doesn’t even matter that the job isn’t coming from their website name…they see it as it is…expanding digital real estate.
Now, I know you probably have tons of questions…
