Jimdo Review: Best Website Builder Or Is There A Better Option For You?

Jimdo is described as an easy-to-use website builder that allows you to quickly create a professional online presence. But does it work? Jimdo reviews such as this are a great way to find out if the platform is right for you.

This review will go over Jimdo to see if it really is a good website builder.

You’ll learn whether website building is the right online business for you.

And at the end, you’ll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions regarding Jimdo and website building in general.

But most importantly, you’ll see the exact system many others have used to build their own internet marketing business to over $40,000 a month in mostly passive income.

This system made them swear off website building for good, because it uses some of the same skills but in a much more powerful and profitable way!

Table of Contents

1. What Is Jimdo?

Jimdo offers a complete solution to building a website or an online store. Depending upon your plan, you may use it to

  • Buy a domain.
  • Design and host a website.
  • Blog.
  • Sell products online.

It’s hosted, which means it works in a browser. There’s no software you need to install on any computer. Your Jimdo account hosts the core elements of your website, such as a domain, template, hosting, and other services. You only need to add your content.

2. Jimdo Pricing

The number of Jimdo Plans and their names varies a lot from country to country. Below are the US plans. They are listed under two categories, ‘Website’ or ‘Online Store.’

Website

  • Play: $0 per month
  • Start: $9 per month
  • Grow: $15/month

Online Store

  • Basic: $15/month
  • For Business: $19 per calendar month

I’ve included US prices, but the plan structure is similar to other places. Jimdo prices vary widely depending on where you live. For example, in the UK, the entry-level plan costs PS9; in EU countries, it is EUR9 — making it 40% more expensive than the US.

Jimdo’s prices will vary depending upon where you live. Jimdo doesn’t seem to allow currency conversions for local markets. This contrasts with similar platforms that would enable currency variations.

3. Content Management And Interface

You can choose from two options when building a website using the Jimdo interface.

It is a bit confusing that all the help material to Jimdo refers to these two modes by these names — however, when you select them, “Dolphin” will be presented as a code-free mode and “Creator” as an expert mode.

  • In “Dolphin” mode, you’ll be asked many questions about your site. Jimdo’s algorithm will construct your site based on these answers (plus material pulled from your social media profiles).
  • In the Creator Mode, you create your own website by using one Jimdo template. These templates let you add more features such as galleries, background videos, blogs, and online stores.

Blogging Functionality

Blogging can be a vital part of any business’s inbound marketing strategy and a key traffic driver.

Jimdo has a simple blogging function on all plans (the paid one included).

These basics are covered well enough: you can add social media sharing buttons, schedule posts, modify URLs, and even edit them.

You can either use Disqus or the Jimdo-integrated system to leave comments. Disqus has advanced features, including threaded discussions. Jimdo’s blog is compatible with the Facebook Commenting System.

You might expect (using both tags/ categories) that blog posts can be categorized or archived.

As with all things in Jimdo, the blogging features are primarily aimed at beginners rather than professionals. Multiple contributor functionality is perhaps the most notable omission in the blog. Jimdo cannot allow multiple staff members. Thus, only one person can contribute to your blog. It’s hard to make Jimdo a professional publication featuring a variety of authors.

Jimdo’s latest blogging functionality test revealed no way to embed blog content on other pages. This used to be possible with a widget. It seems that it has been removed.

The Jimdo blog functionality is fine, mainly when used with the commenting tools. But it cannot compete with a more professional website builder WordPress (or other similar hosted website builders such as Squarespace).

Jimdo is very user-friendly, and you can start blogging quickly.

Managing Your Jimdo Site Using A Mobile App

Jimdo offers a free mobile app, available for both Android or iOS. This allows site owners and managers to easily manage their website on a tablet or smartphone. It’s called Jimdo Creator and works only in the ‘Creator’ version.

You can use it to edit your website, manage orders, post blog posts, and monitor your website statistics.

Jimdo is getting fairly good reviews both on iOS and Android. It has been awarded more than 4 stars for each platform.

4. Templates

Choice Of Templates

Jimdo’s Creator’ mode will prompt you to choose if you wish to build your website, store, or blog. Also, you will need to specify your field (for example, Photographer and Portfolio. Bar and Restaurant. Community and Clubs. Fashion. There are 16 choices of templates available.

Once you have selected one of these templates, it is not yours forever. You can change to another later.

Jimdo’s templates in action

Note that some other website builders offer a more excellent selection of templates. Wix, for a similar price, offers over 500+ templates. Squarespace offers 130 templates that look professional.

Jimdo offers a limited range of templates.

The fact that there aren’t hundreds of templates makes your website creation easier and quicker.

A bonus is that you can change between templates without losing content. This is great for anyone who doesn’t know much about building websites or wants to quickly experiment with different looks. Jimdo is better than Wix in this area — Wix doesn’t allow you to change templates without losing any content. Squarespace, however, makes it more challenging than it should be.

Finally, if code is your thing, you can create your templates using Jimdo’s design kits — a set that includes tools to program your template.

5. eCommerce

Jimdo plans are more expensive, with the $15 Basic or $19 Business plans. This gives you access to eCommerce functionality.

Jimdo makes creating an online store fast and straightforward. You can easily add products, set terms for your store, and create automated email responses.

Notifications will be emailed to all site visitors and dashboards when an order is placed on your website’s online store. You can easily view store orders and tick them off. You can also export your list in CSV/XML format if necessary.

Jimdo lets you track your inventory and display the items that are in stock. Jimdo will notify you if you have run out of any particular item.

Jimdo doesn’t offer a payment gateway. However, it does provide access to Stripe and PayPal. These companies take a small percentage of each transaction. However, Jimdo does NOT charge fees for sales made via your site.

Jimdo has other features that may appeal to sellers who are looking to sell:

  • Discounts on functionality and gift coupons
  • Facebook ads integrate with Built-In

The following are reasons you might avoid Jimdo e-commerce solutions:

  • There is no automatic tax calculation.
  • There is no abandoned-cart saver.
  • For managing your online store, you cannot create multiple staff accounts.
  • You can’t make a ‘buy Now’ button for external websites and social media profiles.
  • You can’t export or import product data.
  • Selling digital products requires the tedious and manual setup of pages with password.

Jimdo should not, in the end, be viewed as a professional solution to e-commerce.

It is acceptable for small sites that only sell a few products. But if you want to do eCommerce seriously and need a hosted solution, Shopify or another dedicated eCommerce platform will better serve you. Jimdo has a lot more eCommerce functionality than other products (like Squarespace and Wix), more general-purpose website builders.

6. Integrations

Jimdo’s official app store does not include integrations with third-party tools and addons.

You don’t have to integrate Jimdo websites with third-party tools. Many third-party applications offer code snippets or widgets, which can be used to enhance functionality.

To increase the functionality of your Jimdo-site, you may also consider using plugins by POWR.

7. Data Capture

Jimdo makes it simple to add forms to your site. These allow visitors the ability to message you and sign up for your newsletters.

Your form can have many different types of fields, but one thing is sure: you can include a file-upload field. A third-party solution, such as Wufoo/ Jotform, will allow you to allow users access to your files.

Jimdo’s Form Builder

Jimdo automatically forwards all submissions to the specified address. Unfortunately, Jimdo cannot automatically send the data you have captured to an email marketing program like Aweber and MailChimp.

To do that, you’ll need the form code of your chosen email marketing company and embed it on your site using Jimdo’s widget/ HTML Elements (which is much better than manually copying email addresses into your tools).

Site Metrics

Jimdo has a reporting dashboard that provides basic stats and allows you to monitor your website’s performance.

You can perform a more thorough analysis using Google Analytics by adding the code of Google to your site’s head.

You can then view Google Analytics data in your Jimdo Dashboard.

8. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Jimdo’s SEO tools are highly comprehensive.

Jimdo plans other than the free plan, you can:

  • Use SEO-friendly headings (H1s, H2s, etc.)
  • Add alt text.
  • Google-friendly URLs that are based on your page titles
  • Add page title or meta description
  • Edit page URLs
  • Create 301 URL redirects. It’s used to tell search engines that a page has moved.
  • Use robots.txt if you want search engines to stop indexing a page.

Your hosting speed is something that you won’t be able or control. WordPress hosts can only host websites on speedy servers. PageSpeed (or technical SEO) is an essential component of technical optimization. Faster loading sites are sometimes given better rankings. It’s part and parcel of any hosted solution. However, Jimdo is one of the most reliable in terms of speed.

9. Jimdo Website Builder Customer Support

Jimdo sites display a “?” icon when adding or editing elements. This icon shows basic contextual information about the component being edited. This is generally quite good.

Jimdo Support Center offers helpful videos and articles for building and editing websites.

The Support Centre can sometimes seem confusing. It’s because there are two versions of Jimdo (Dolphin, Creator), and you will need to ensure that you’re using the correct help site.

Jimdo also refers to both versions as “code-free” and “expert” when creating a site.

Jimdo’s Support Website

Jimdo can be reached via email if the above resources do not meet your needs. Unfortunately, there is no phone or live chat support.

Paid-for plans have limited support and can take 1-2 days to get it.

11. GDPR Compliance

It’s crucial to address privacy and data protection issues adequately with the EU’s GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and California’s CCPA privacy law because penalties for failing to do so can be severe.

Jimdo makes it easy to understand the GDPR basics. You can easily add privacy policies, website terms, and cookie notice documents to any site.

It’s not easy to get the cookie consent you want.

Website owners are required to comply with five essential rules regarding cookie consent under GDPR.

  • Inform website visitors that cookies are used.
  • Explain how cookies are used and why.
  • Visitors have the option to give their consent for ‘non-essential cookies’ to be used before they run (Facebook pixels and Google Analytics, Adsense, etc.
  • Log consent to cookie use.
  • Users can withdraw consent to allow them to switch cookies that they have previously activated.

Jimdo, unlike many of its competitors, has built-in functionality that allows you to meet most of these requirements. You can add a list with the type of cookies (functional, necessary, or performance). You can add some code to your website to trigger Jimdo’s cookies notice settings.

Is Jimdo A Free Website Builder?

Well, Jimdo’s free plan is one of my favorites. You can use the plan indefinitely to create up to 5 pages (the minimum size for most small business sites) and get most of the features. It will display an advertisement for Jimdo on every page, but it isn’t that important.

You get 500MB of storage and 2GB of bandwidth. Jimdo can be a great place if you want to create your first website and learn about site builders.

You also get 2GB of bandwidth, and 500MB of storage. If you want to build your very first little site, and get a feel for how site builders work, Jimdo could be a great place to start.

Is Jimdo The Right Site Builder For You?

Jimdo’s philosophy focuses on making web design more accessible.

Their free plan may be able to meet this goal. It is pretty generous and allows anyone to create a website quickly and easily. Jimdo offers a quick and easy way to create a website.

As for the paid plans, the concern here is the price. A fully functional website can be built using the platform for just $9 per month. This is significantly less than the cost of using some other building solutions, such as Squarespace and Wix, which offer entry-level plans at $14/ month and $16/ month, respectively.

Tech-wise, Jimdo makes it easier to get started in eCommerce than other platforms. Jimdo’s $15 per month Basic plan allows you to build an online shop cheaper than Squarespace at $26 per month, Shopify at $29 per month, and Bigcommerce at $29.95 per month.

Jimdo’s eCommerce functionality has a greater level of sophistication than these products.

Jimdo is worth considering if you have a limited budget and have high-quality needs. It is ideal for small businesses looking to establish an online presence and/or shop but lacking the resources, expertise, or time to manage complex systems.

However, website builders with more sophisticated requirements will almost always be better than those without. BigCommerce or Shopify can help you with your serious eCommerce requirements. WordPress is the best option for anyone who wants to blog or run an online publication.

What Is Our #1 Recommendation For Making Money Online In 2021?

Our review team has come across a program in the real estate industry that is next level!

Although it’s not real estate in the traditional sense, it’s all digital.

Yup, Digital Real Estate!

With this digital real estate program, you can profit off LOCAL traffic to your website every single day!

Sound too good to be true?

Of course it does!

But it isn’t…in fact, business owners wish they had this skill!

All you have to do is build and rank a LOCAL website and forward the jobs off to a business owner in town, you could even email it to them!

This works for literally any service based business, tree service, plumbing, towing, etc.

How do you get paid and how much?

Simple, after you forward the jobs off to a business owner and he makes some money off of them, you simply ask to make the deal beneficial for each other.

A fair price to charge per lead, depending on the industry is 10-20%…let’s just use the tree service industry for example and go by worst case scenario.

Let’s say you build and rank the site and only 10 jobs a month come in. The average tree service job is anywhere from $500-$2000!

That means at bare minimum you have an asset worth $500 a month!

See why they call it digital real estate now?

That’s a rent payment.

The great thing is how easy it is to scale. You don’t have to worry about various CPC’s setting off different campaigns in the red at different times.

This one actually allows you to collect HUGE FLAT RATE DEALS. Truly passive income!

The training program takes making money online to another level. The owner of the program walks you through how to build and rank a site hand in hand, with the occasional voice over when he is sharing his screen.

You will learn the importance of keywords, website name, how to send call notifications via email, backlinking, etc.

Once the training program is completed you will also have access to a Facebook group where you can get a good deal of support form others who are doing to same thing you are doing.

A business will always want more leads and another job. In fact it doesn’t even matter that the job isn’t coming from their website name…they see it as it is…expanding digital real estate.

Now, I know you probably have tons of questions…

So, check this out to learn more.
