By: Joel & Josiah
Ecom Genie Reviews Is Steven Mayer Legit

There are no shortcuts to building sustainable income online or in any business. Building a 5 or 6-figure business will typically require several weeks or months of dedicated focus, and it will likely involve recurring expenses for essential tools and related resources. It is crucial that you fully understand these factors when evaluating any business opportunity.

Hi! Thanks for visiting ScamRisk and taking the time to read one of my eCom Genie reviews.

My guess is that you’ve found this review either one of a few different ways:

  1. You’ve been doing some research and found a Steven Mayer review about his eCom Genie course online and now you’re trapped in Google’s algorithm
  2. You have an eCommerce website that’s been an albatross around your neck and want to know how to walk away without losing the income
  3. You like the idea of making passive income online, but you don’t have the time to set up a store or sell products.

Honestly, it’s not all that important HOW you got here as it is WHY you’re here, because you’re looking for something different and just need a little nudge off that fence.

In the next 10-15 minutes I’m hoping to answer some questions for you like:

  • What is eCommerce and what’s the best way to make money?
  • Does eCom Genie actually work?
  • Are the eCom Genie scam rumors true?
  • Are there better programs to invest my money?
  • What business models are as good or better than eCommerce?

With any luck, we’ll be able to answer these questions together and save you days and weeks of online research, or thousands of dollars lost money and that big fat “I Told You So” from your uncle Frank.

So, let’s get things started with a quick summary and a few Pros and Cons…

Average Rating

3.83

While eCom Genie is a done-for-you service, it still requires some training especially in using platforms like Amazon and Walmart. Steven’s program doesn’t offer structured mentorship, but he does have extensive experience with the eCommerce business model and will offer his help when needed. Since this is a partnership program, Steven doesn’t feel a private community isn’t necessary.

PROS

  • Done For You: Steven Mayer and his team do all the heavy lifting from buying and selling products, which is ideal for those who don’t have time for the day-to-day operations.
  • Expertise: Steven has over 10 years experience in eCommerce, which mean you can have confidence in your investment.
  • Store Buyback Protection: eCom Genie offers a buyback policy for their full-service package, which means you can your investment back if you don’t see returns in 18 months.

CONS

  • High Investment: The cost to get involved can be between $5,000 to $15,000 starting out, which will be out of reach for most individuals.
  • Little Control: As a partner you will have limited control, which means you’ll have no say in how the business if operated.
  • Availability: eCom Genie only has a few spots open for investors, which means if you want to participate you will be competing with other investors.

Why Listen To Us?

My name is Josiah, and this is my Dad, Joel.

Together, we make up the team here at Scamrisk.

If you’ll let me bother you for two minutes, I’d like to quickly explain why I’m even here writing this review.

In early 2020, I had just graduated from college & had no real career prospects.

I knew I was destined for something more, but I had no clue how I was going to make it happen.

I had this sinking feeling in my gut all the time… like the “big man upstairs” had accidentally given me the version of life where I’d be mediocre forever, instead of the one where I was, ya know – happy & fulfilled.

Anyway…

I had fiddled around with some different online businesses in college:

Some random MLMs, a bit of affiliate marketing, a (failed) dropshipping store or two, all the usual suspects.

Even my dad had been involved in MLMs back in the day… selling knives & other random nonsense people (probably) didn’t need.

All I really wanted was to find something that was going to actually work for me.

Maybe those things had worked for others, but for me it all turned up a fat “0” in the bank account department.

So I searched! And searched… and searched… and searched…

And eventually, I somehow stumbled upon a program that promised to help me build an income online (read about it here if you’re curious).

I didn’t really want to be “rich”.

The thought of making a reliable $5K per month & not having to worry about clocking in to a 9-to-5 ever again was all I needed.

Sure, there were people in the program doing high-6 and low-7 figures per year… but that wasn’t what I was out for.

I just wanted to provide freedom for myself, and if I was lucky, take my family along for the ride.

Fast forward a few days and a few phone calls & I was enrolled!

Here’s the first “money making website” I put up:

I built that site in 2020, and it still makes me $1,500 per month. It’s a basic 5 page website I built based on a template the program provides.

The best part to me? My dad and I get to do it all together!

So between the:

  1. Ease of reaching $5-$10K per month in income online
  2. Straightforward-ness of the system to do it
  3. Fact that I get to do it w/ my family

Is why I recommend local lead generation as my #1 business model for making money online.

Sure, it takes some work and dedication – but anyone that tells you that there’s a business out there that requires no work is selling you a lemon.

I’m not saying you need to sign up for the same program I did, but I would definitely recommend giving the business model a peek!

TLDR – Steven Mayer eCom Genie Verdict?

Steven Mayer eCom Genie Verdict

If you’re looking for a quick verdict on whether you should invest your money with Steven Mayer or not, I would say that you probably want to tap the brakes at first before making your final decision.

I’ve written many reviews about eCommerce – you can check out my Low Hanging System reviews as an example – but I have to say that eCommerce is not my favorite.

Now, I’m not saying that because I believe Steven and his team are out to scam anyone – It’s just that ecommerce has grown a lot over the last several years and the competition is crazy.

In fact, when you’re going toe-to-toe with industry giants like Amazon, you’ll find that they’ve got about 80% of the market cornered. On top of that, nearly 60% of shoppers abandon their shopping carts because they saw a better deal on another site.

So, even if Steven is taking care of all the sales, he’s still going to have to deal with this.

Let’s also not forget about returns and chargebacks. The average refunds are usually between 20-30% mainly because the size is too large or too small, or just the wrong item all together.

What if you could tap into a business model where all these issues are minimized?

That’s why I’ve been doing Digital Leasing for the last few years now, because you have a better chance of creating the passive income that eCom Genie promises without all the competition.

Now, I understand if you might still be on the fence with eCom Genie, so let’s take a look at who this system might be best for…

AreaScoreDescription
Time Investment4/5eCom Genie is somewhat hands-off requiring only 1-2 hours per month and mainly involves setting up stores. This allows Steven’s partners to focus more on the eCom side of the business.
Level of Control2/5You won’t have too much control over the day-to-day operations of your business, Steven takes care of sales a product selection. This is ideal for individual who want a more passive role.
Ease of Implementation3/5The program is designed to be easy for beginners to get started, with the service setting up your LLC. However, some oversight by partners may be needed in the beginning.
Profit PotentialSteven claims that you can be making anywhere from $1,000 to $20,000 per month within 14 months, but that depends the markets and how much money you invested.

Who Should Consider eCom Genie And Who Should Look Somewhere Else?

Who Is eCom Genie For

Honestly, eCommerce is not a bad industry to get into with sales reaching $4.9 Trillion in 2021 and tracking towards $6.4 Trillion by 2024. So you can certainly make decent money with it if you do it the right way.

I also believe that most people have a good idea of whether or not they want to jump into eCommerce, they just need to take a look at a few facts to help them make their decision.

What I like to do is draw a few comparisons to help make that process easier.

With that in mind, if you can see yourself in the following situations, then eCom Genie might be a good fit:

  • You’ve been reading the tea leaves and understand that 95% of purchases are going to be made online by the year 2040 and you want to ride that wave.
  • You have a couple of online stores, but they’re very hands-on and you want something that can give you more time freedom.
  • You’re getting to the point where you have more money to invest and figure that you might as well stick with what you know best.

You might want to pass on eCom Genie if you can relate to the following:

  • You’re a little hesitant to invest in something that isn’t a tangible asset, because if it doesn’t work out, you may have little recourse. This Reddit user claims that Steven Mayer didn’t make good on his promise of $100k/mo in sales in 6 months and is looking to join others to take action against him.
  • This Trustpilot user said that she has contacted an attorney because she paid Steven Mayer $30,000 when he ran the same type of program under a different name called Valiant Consultants. The Attorney did some digging and couldn’t find an actual address and suggested calling the FBI or Attorney General.

eCom Genie: A 1,000 Ft View

eCom Genie A 1,000 Ft View

At this point, you deserve some Kudos for sticking with my eCom Genie review.

What I would like to do now is you give you a general overview of the eCommerce business model along with the following:

  • How you make money
  • A short bio of Steven Mayer
  • How much it costs to join eCom Genie
  • Is it legit or a scam

So, let’s start with the business model…

I know some of you might have a general idea of how eCommerce works. Basically, you have a product you would like to sell, you create a website, you list that product on your site and hopefully the people who visit your site will end up buying it.

I also know all the hassles that come with:

  • Dealing with suppliers (especially the ones overseas)
  • Inventory management
  • Shipping and fulfillment

What if you could still make money with all that, but not to be involved with all the day-to-day operations?

This is the principle behind eCom Genie.

Steven Mayer and his team take care of all that for you so that you can enjoy the passive income streams without all the headaches.

Now Let’s take a look at the for different types of eCommerce, just in case you were curious…

There are 4 common types of eCommerce that you can get involved in:

  1. Business To Consumer (B2C): In this version a business will sell their products directly to the customer with no third party (middle-man) involved.
  2. Business To Business (B2B): This model involves one business selling their products or services to another business.
  3. Consumer To Business (C2B): Think of a freelancer (like a graphic artist or copywriter) selling their services to a company. Typically the company would find them on platforms like Fiverr and Upwork.
  4. Consumer To Consumer (C2C): Sometimes transactions are made with very little involvement from a business except to provide a platform for the sale. Think of an individual that has furniture for sale on eBay or Facebook Online Marketplace

How Do You Make Money With eCom Genie?

eCommerce is a big umbrella with many different ways to make money online. Some of these include:

Here’s a quick overview of these top three.

Affiliate Marketing, in its basic form, is simply selling other people’s products. The industry itself has a gross value of about $17 billion worldwide with 16% of all online purchases from the United States

For the most part, affiliate marketers have a website in a specific niche with products for sale in that niche.  When a visitor comes to their website, clicks on an “affiliate link” for a product, and purchases that product on another site, that affiliate marketer gets paid a commission.

Dropshipping is slightly different in that you find a supplier for a specific product like shoes, clothes, or toys and list them on your website. When someone places an order from your site, the product is shipped directly to the customer and the dropshipper sends you your cut.

Print On Demand is similar to Dropshipping in the way they handle inventory and shipping for you, but the difference is that the supplier allows you to customize orders like t-shirts, coffee mugs, or pillows with your own design work and sell them with your brand on it.

Steven Mayer Review: Who Is he?

Steven Mayer Review

Steven Mayer has been around the eCom industry for over a decade getting his start with Amazon FBA in 2012 and has a proven track record with it.

Shortly afterwards he started a channel on YouTube where he would post free tutorials on how to make money with eCommerce, but as of today, he only has 604 subscribers and 7 videos in total.

At the pinnacle of his success, he offered a done-for-you eCom service (similar to eCom Genie but under a different name, Valiant Consultants).  In just under three years, he had 1,500 clients and over $1 Billion in revenue.

He later fell on hard times, however, when his account manager stole millions of his clients money which led to a mass exodus from his company and an even worse reputation for himself.

InstagramInstagram“The Past Was A Lesson Not A Life Sentence”
YoutubeYouTube“From being the leading Amazon automation company in the space, serving over 1500 clients and generating millions in sales, to experiencing a complete downfall.”

How Much Does eCom Genie Cost?

How much does eCom Genie Cost

The eCom Genie service is broken down into three different packages:

  • Amazon Full-Servie: This package costs at least $10,000 to get started.
  • Amazon / Walmart Dropshipping: This package starts at $5,000
  • Amazon Wholesale FBA: Pricing not available. It’s worth noting that he did have a similar course called FBA Freedom Hackers Academy that sold for $3,000.

What’s Behind The eCom Genie Scam Issues?

Whats Behind The eCom Genie Scam Issues

I’ll be honest here, I don’t think eCom Genie is a scam. I also don’t believe that Steven is out to put anyone in a bind.

But it’s hard to ignore the 800 lb Gorilla in the corner.  What I mean by that is Steven’s history.  Now, I will give him the benefit of the doubt when he says his accountant stole all that money from his investors.

My main concern is whether or not he can deliver on his promises.  Sure he has safeguards in place where you can get your money back if you don’t see a return within a certain amount of time.

However, most investors want to know for sure that they will see a return on their money.

That’s why I have been doing Digital Leasing for the last few years now. It’s nothing like eCommerce which I believe is a good thing.

Picture this…

What if you could build a small website in just a few hours, then in less than 30 days be making anywhere from $500 – $2000 per month?

What would stop you from making 10, 20, or even 50 more of these sites?

The best part is that your looking at a quick-turn ROI with profit margins of up to 90%.

How Is eCom Genie Different From Other Similar Programs?

How Is eCom Genie Different From Other Similar Programs

One of the main differences between eCom Genie and other programs is that it’s set up as a Done For You (DFY) service.  They handle everything from setting up your store, selling products and shipping.  The only thing you need to do is supply the money.

So let’s look at how eCom Genie compares to other eCommerce programs:

Online Blueprint

In my Online Blueprint review I talk about how it’s an affiliate program that’s also DFY. They do all the research and you pay for the ads.

eCom Good Life

In my eCom Good Life reviews, I talk about how Mikey Kass gives you just an overview of dropshipping for a low price tag.

eCom Degree University

In eCom Degree University William Rivera also teaches about dropshipping, but his course costs anywhere from $1,497 to as much as $7,997 if you buy all his upsells.

My Personal Opinion About eCom Genie

My Personal Opinion About eCom Genie

Let me first say that although I’m not a big fan of the eCom business model, that’s not to say that I don’t think it can work.

I’ve made a good amount of money as an affiliate marketer and even dropshipping with Amazon FBA.

I also have to say I’m intrigued with Steven Mayer’s DFY services, I just don’t think I could wait up to 18 months for my first ROI.

Also, the issues in the past have me a little nervous too; that said, I do have a short five-point checklist that I use to determine if I should keep researching a program or not:

  1. Owner Experience: Does Steven have real-world knowledge of eCommerce especially given the cost to join?
  2. Community: Does the eCom Genie have a private community for students and clients to network?
  3. Value: Does Steven bring value in his program, in other words, can he make good on his promises?
  4. Honesty: Can you trust Steven with your investment?
  5. Online Reviews: You’ll see plenty of negative reviews online from places like Reddit, Trustpilot and BBB from his other program. You’ll want to at least consider them.

Would I Recommend eCom Genie?

Looking at the five steps above, I would say that Steve passes 2-3 off the checklist.

Owner Experience, Value, and (probably) Honesty.

  • Not having a community is a bit of a red flag, because having a place for your clients to connect is a good way to keep you honest.
  • I believe that he presents a good amount of value if his client testimonials are to be believed.
  • I’ll have to trust that he’s honestly learned from his past.

What’s Inside eCom Genie?

The Turnkey All-In-One

The Turnkey All-in-one

In the Turnkey system, You provide the funding with exclusive access to his entire team, operations and inventory management. They build your online store and you keep the profits

Amazon & Walmart Built 4 You

Amazon and Walmart Built 4 You

Steven and his team build you an Walmart or Amazon FBA machine and you run with it.

Amazon Full Service Package

Amazon Full Service

This is more like a crowdfunding program where Steven’s clients pool their money, his team uses that money to build the store, and Steven pays dividends from monthly sales to the investors.

My Conclusion: Should You Join eCom Genie?

Let me wrap this up by saying that although I like the concept of purchasing a Done For You eCom store, or even the idea of pooling your money with other investors, this program just wouldn’t be my best choice, and here’s why…

My #1 Pick For Making Money Online In 2025

What Is My Top Recommendation For Making Money Online - Digital Leasing

I’ve been around the eCom business for several years now.  I’ve made money with:

  • My own Shopify store
  • Selling affiliate products on Clickbank
  • Dropshipping products through Amazon FBA

In this review, I’ve touched on my favorite business model, Digital Leasing, and now I would like to show you WHY it’s my #1 choice…

  1. Time Flexibility: The first reason why I like this business so much is that you can do this in your spare time.  Even if you have only an hour in your day, you can do this business.
  2. You’re The Boss: Clearly with eCom Genie you have very little control over how your business is operated.  Now, although this may appeal to some, I think I would be waking up in cold sweats every morning.
  3. Low Operating Costs: You can launch a website for as little as $100 and, with the right approach, work toward achieving high profit margins within 30 days.
  4. Easy Duplication: You can replicate your efforts with multiple websites at a relatively low cost, requiring only a small investment and some time. While you could invest in new stores with Steve, that money would likely be tied up for at least a year before seeing returns.
  5. Helping Your Community: With traditional eCommerce, you’re basically selling products in order to fill your bank account. With Digital Leasing, you’re actually helping that Mom & Pop store down the street that might be on the verge of bankruptcy.

Digital Leasing gives you the opportunity of not only generating passive income that allows you more time freedom, but also the chance for generational wealth to provide for your kids and grandkids.

The decision is yours.  Maybe eCom Genie is what you’ve been looking for, and hopefully after a year, you’ll see those returns that Steven Mayer promises you.

Or you could take a look at Digital Leasing and start building a real future today.
