Base Camp Trading Reviews ([year] Update): Best Trading Course? Maybe, But #9 Really Got Me Thinking!

Base Camp Trading Reviews: Introduction

In this review, we will learn a good lesson: not everything that looks good on paper is actually good for you in real life.

We're going to review Base Camp Trading to decide if it really is the best trading course out there.

DISCLAIMER:

This Base Camp Trading review has been thoroughly researched with information and testimonials that are available to anyone in the public. Any conclusions drawn by myself are opinions.

PROS
  • Excellent marketing (you will think that they are legit)
CONS
  • No proof of trading history
  • No live trading record
  • Moderators have little track record of trading success

Why Listen To Us

My name is Josiah, and this is my Dad, Joel.why listen us

Together, we make up the team here at Scamrisk.

If you’ll let me bother you for two minutes, I’d like to quickly explain why I’m even here writing this review.

In early 2020, I had just graduated from college & had no real career prospects.

I knew I was destined for something more, but I had no clue how I was going to make it happen.

I had this sinking feeling in my gut all the time… like the “big man upstairs” had accidentally given me the version of life where I’d be mediocre forever, instead of the one where I was, ya know – happy & fulfilled.

Anyway…

I had fiddled around with some different online businesses in college:

Some random MLMs, a bit of affiliate marketing, a (failed) dropshipping store or two, all the usual suspects.

Even my dad had been involved in MLMs back in the day… selling knives & other random nonsense people (probably) didn’t need.

All I really wanted was to find something that was going to actually work for me.

Maybe those things had worked for others, but for me it all turned up a fat “0” in the bank account department.

So I searched! And searched… and searched… and searched…

And eventually, I somehow stumbled upon a program that promised to help me build an income online (read about it here if you’re curious).

I didn’t really want to be “rich”.

The thought of making a reliable $5K per month & not having to worry about clocking in to a 9-to-5 ever again was all I needed.

Sure, there were people in the program doing high-6 and low-7 figures per year… but that wasn’t what I was out for.

I just wanted to provide freedom for myself, and if I was lucky, take my family along for the ride.

Fast forward a few days and a few phone calls & I was enrolled!

Here’s the first “money making website” I put up:

why listen us gif

I built that site in 2020, and it still makes me $1,500 per month. It’s a basic 5 page website I built based on a template the program provides.

The best part to me? My dad and I get to do it all together!

So between the:

  1. Ease of reaching $5-$10K per month in income online

  2. Straightforward-ness of the system to do it

  3. Fact that I get to do it w/ my family

Is why I recommend local lead generation as my #1 business model for making money online.

Sure, it takes some work and dedication – but anyone that tells you that there’s a business out there that requires no work is selling you a lemon.

I’m not saying you need to sign up for the same program I did, but I would definitely recommend giving the business model a peek!

You probably discovered Base Camp Trading for the same reason you might have come across any other financial newsletter, Stocks and Commodities trading service, or investment program:

Because you want more money in less time.

And chances are, you want to quickly multiply the money you do have (as opposed to waiting months or even years to see a decent ROI).

This is a really exciting promise, and it’s probably why the financial publishing and training industry is worth billions of dollars.

The problem is, because the idea of doubling, tripling, or 10X-ing your money in a few minutes to a few days is so enticing, there are a ton of shady characters in this space.

But, putting that aside, let’s say every investing guru and “trading expert” on the internet had the best of intentions.

Even with proprietary algorithms, a room full of supercomputers, and a team of rocket scientists, most of these experts would be lucky to get it right 20% of the time.

Now sure, we’re talking about asymmetric bets here, so theoretically the winners should more than make up for the losers.

But in order to make that happen, you can NEVER miss a trade. With a 20% success rate (speaking optimistically), one missed winner could turn a profitable month into a loser.

That’s a lot of pressure and a lot of stress (not to mention a lot of losing) with not much certainty.

But what if there was a way you could build a passive income stream that’s actually passive?

An income stream that doesn’t require:

  • Constantly monitoring your phone for buy/sell alerts
  • Obsessively watching charts and movement
  • The emotional roller coaster and angst of hoping one winner can cover the last 8 losses
  • Gambler’s odds (20% chance of success is worse than the odds of winning at Blackjack)

An income stream that brings in consistent revenues every single month (from a couple thousand dollars to well over $10,000)?

An income stream you could actually build in your spare time, and grow as large or as small as you want to, without having to spend hours a day monitoring charts, trades, and alerts?

Basecamp Trading Review: The Drew Day Scam!

I have not seen many Basecamp Trading reviews online. Therefore, the odds are that most individuals reading through the review of Base Camp Trading will like to hear this news.

To begin with, this is a trading institution run by deceptive and A-class Twitter marketers. Second, there are numerous trading items on sale here.

It all costs money.

By the time you check out the workshops, the mentorships, the trading indicators, etc., you'll have invested a minimum of $6,000.

So, definitely give it some thought.

Base Camp Trading has a lot of worthless trading indicators, educational seminars, and private mentorship.

The original site (ValueCharts.com) used-to be operated by three men: Mark Helweg, Dave Aquino, and Thomas Wood. They've re-branded Value Charts to what we know these days as Basecamp Trading.

The founder utilizes the name Drew Day. It's not really clear if he's using an alias or not. I do know that most naive traders, hoping to make overnight riches, shouldn't spend much money on this trading institution just to get a unicorn.

I doubt whether Drew Day or the other men he's allegedly running this company with are also competent to give investment advice to anybody.

Is the trading information provided at BaseCampTrading really legitimate?

No, not really!

You will find 20 indicators and 32 workshops at BasecampTrading.com. These trading indicators cost you anywhere between $140 and $2,000.

Just when you think you've bought all the trading stuff that you need from Drew Day and don't want to buy any more trading products, Base Camp Trading throws you a curveball and reminds you of all the other information that you can buy through their trading workshops.

The least expensive trading lesson will cost you $7, while the most expensive trading item goes up to $2,000.

You have to draw most of these trading courses and several signs to be a specialist trader.

The Base Camp Trading Site

This landing page (basecamptrading.co) came up on my radar and when I checked it, I learn the trading educator is selling access to a trading room.

They say this typically costs $147 a month though they will let you in for $97 monthly. When I looked into it even further, I also found that Drew Day and his team were charging $7 for 30 days, and after this, they will start charging $97 a month.

In this particular trading room, traders get a chance to access the following:

  1. Futures, Options, Stocks, and Forex mentorship
  2. Four primary trading style courses (videos, audio, and articles showing trade setups)
  3. Daily trade analysis and commentary
  4. 10 minutes or less Base Camp Trading Weekly Outlook
  5. Private member-only chat
  6. New member orientation (live)

Base Camp Trading Site

In order to make it look like it's worth the money you pay for the program, Drew Day and his staff have published a lot of testimonials from individuals that state they have made money adopting the trades on the live trading room.

The 30-day Trading Challenge

Base Camp Trading provides a 30-day trading challenge where students are promised to learn an long list of trading tactics within just one month.

The things they promise here are absurd and are kind of sounding like a marketing gimmick. This is further supported by screenshots of alleged student's profits. These figures haven't been verified nor audited by a third party.

Who Is Dave Aquino, Mark Helwig, Brian Strong, And Thomas Wood?

dave aquino

All these trading gurus are using fancy titles, making them sound like they are professionals in the topic of trading.

I have noticed titles as

  • Investment Software Developer
  • Hedge Fund Manager
  • Director of Trading Operations
  • Advisor to many traders worldwide
  • Partner of Supero Capital
  • Quantitative Engineer
  • Patent Holder

...and so on.

In truth, the main point here is only the bottom line. Very few of these men can confirm they trade and make money on a live broker bank account.

So what?

So you have to realize that these fancy titles, as well as snake oil trading indicators, can be a huge distraction.

As the person who investigates and publishes a review this way, I'll concentrate on the points that matter.

Things like quality of products sold there, trading rooms, evidence of effective live trading, etc., are all at the top of my top priority list.

Here's How You Get Scammed

basecamptrading

Inside the trading room, students don't get performance disclosures. While every one of those individuals says they are full-time professional traders, not a student among them has ever disclosed their trading history.

The initial thing I did in this trading room was to look for actionable info or trade recommendations. I combed through the captured screenshots for this info because there was a lot of talking.

I was actually irritated because the trading moderators kept on talking and not trading.

This sort of hollow conversation just won't cut it in a trading room handled by an Investment Software Developer, Director of Trading Operations, Hedge Fund Manager, etc.

Thomas Wood of Base Camp Trading was obviously paper trading with a simulated account. A real trade station account should have things like real-time summary, balance, and account number at the bottom part right hand of the screen.

These questionable marketing strategies are deceptive.

Base Camp Trading really should be an education platform for traders with classes and trading rooms, so traders can learn from professionals.

Nevertheless, it lacks some qualities of being a legitimate company.

Its owners state that they're professionals without any proof, its products lack value, and its trading rooms lack some activity.

In my Base Camp Trading review, I show how these individuals are scamming newer traders. So, I'm hoping my review will help you in creating a better-informed choice about this company.

Wanna-Be Masterminds Of Base Camp Trading

Base Camp Trading is an excellent example of "never judge the book by its cover."

The team behind this scam looks well on paper, which will help them in trapping more individuals within their sleazy schemes.

base camp trading reviews

The program is the brainchild of five dudes:

  • Dave Aquino
  • John Osborn
  • Thomas Wood
  • Drew Day
  • Brian Strong

Drew is the founder and president.

He promises to have 16 years of experience as being a hedge fund manager and a speaker. Also, he claims he's managed over $6.5 billion worth in assets.

He is a CTA (Commodity Trading Advisor), and like him, the majority of the staff looks great on the paper also.

This band of "golden boys" enables Base Camp Trading to persuade people that they will get the value they need.

Unfortunately, the majority of the victims of this scam are individuals that get fooled by accolades and titles.

In terms of delivering performance and results, Base Camp Trading leaves a lot to be desired.

Useless Products

Base Camp Trading is selling junk to its clients by repackaging it through multiple methods.

If you read through their landing pages, you would be bombarded with many useless products.

They're providing courses, trading rooms, VIP client assistance, and numerous other things for under $7?

Useless Products

If they can provide a great deal at $7, you really have to consider the quality of the products. And on top of all that, they offer an $897 course along with this membership too.

They claim this program is a must-have for any trader, which is why they're providing it FOR FREE for their members.

I really don't buy it.

Otherwise, when they currently sell many classes in their shop, why would they always keep a $900 course at no cost?

It doesn't seem sensible.

The Deceiving Trading Room

The Deceiving Trading Room

This is where price action happens.

Basecamptrading.com has a trading room that runs from 9 AM to 12 AM. They provide you the option to test this room with their $7 monthly subscription.

However, it only lasts a month, and so they are going to charge you $147 for the whole month. They primarily specialize in options, futures, and commodity trading, so they've got two day trading rooms.

Thomas Wood moderates the futures day trading room, while Dave Aquino manages the options day trading room.

The trading rooms all claim assist traders to communicate and learn from other experienced traders.

However, there is no real community here.

Base Camp Trading has trading style programs, their Weekly Outlook, daily trade review and analysis, their private member-only chat room, and a live new member orientation session.

Can You Make Money With Base Camp Trading?

Maybe, but I really doubt it.

They don't provide services that they claim would.

Now don't get me wrong...

You can certainly make money with trading, but if you're gonna put in the amount of grueling work to become a trader (which, trust me, isn't easy), you might as well bring in some REAL money.

The program that helped skyrocket my online business to $40,000+ per month teaches some of the same trading skills, but shows you how to monetize them in a much, MUCH more profitable way.

Is Base Camp Trading A Scam?

Scam or Legit

So, is Base Camp Trading a scam? Not technically. You can make money with it, but it’s definitely not as easy as they makes it sound.

Again, with any kind of financial product (especially trading), you’re taking on a lot of risk.

Sure, you could hit it big and retire in Italy, but chances are you need the stomach and financial cushion to weather tons of losses before you get there...and it may never happen.

Most of the big gains numbers these companies use in their marketing (“xyz grew by 4,112% in 3 months” or “this option made 324% in just 2 days”) are cherry-picked.

They don’t tell you about the 10 100% losers that came before.

In other words, if you invested $100 into 11 recommendations, you’d lose $1,000, and make back $324...so you’d still be out almost $700.

Most people don’t have the fortitude to stick it out through 3 straight months of losers in the hopes of landing one big winner.

What if, instead, you took those same 3 months, invested just a couple hours a day (in your spare time), and your reward was a $500 to $2,000 payment that came in every single month?

And what if you actually didn’t need to wait 3 months? What if you could get started today and have your first payment in a week?

And what if you could double it next week?

Well, that’s the power of Digital Leasing.

It’s a true lifestyle business.

Your laptop and an internet connection is all you need.

Some of the most successful students in this program run their entire 6-figure businesses from:

  • A camper in the middle of the woods
  • A beach chair on the water in Mexico
  • A small villa in Greece

TESTIMONIAL - Saying Goodbye To Our Jobs

They’re able to travel around, living their lives first, and focusing on their income second.

Because even if they stop working for an extended period of time, the money keeps coming in.

So adventure, memories, and experience are the top priority.

And they never have to worry about how to pay for the next trip, or consider asking for time off.

Is Base Camp Trading Legit?

Is Base Camp Trading Legit How options trading brokers scam money from traders[/caption]

It could be legit... but why roll the dice?

When it comes to building a business, you have plenty of options.

And even if you're dead set on becoming a trader, you've got way better options than Base Camp Trading.

Keep in mind, I don't get paid to promote any of the programs I review. I personally think trading is a great business model, but you could end up leaving way too much money on the table.

What Is Our Top Recommendation For Making Money Online In 2024?

Digital Leasing

Our review team has spent months researching, reviewing, and vetting dozens of business models and thousands of programs.

While there may be no “perfect business”, the research IS conclusive:

Digital Leasing is the #1 online business model for those just starting out.

Whether you’ve never made a dollar online, or you’ve been in this space for a while but never really “made it,” Digital Leasing is for you.

Why?

1) It’s Flexible: got an hour a day? You can do this. Ready to drop everything else and dive in full time? You can do this. Yes, the more time you put in, the faster you see results. But even with a little time each day, you can move the needle in a Digital Leasing business.

And because this system is so flexible, you don’t have to constantly be working to make more money. It’s called PASSIVE INCOME because if you stop working, the money doesn’t.

Imagine taking 3 months off to just tour around Europe, rent a cabin in the woods to write a book, hike the Appalachian Trail, or live on the beach and surf all day.

This is only possible if you have an income stream that’s not tied to your time.

TESTIMONIAL - JUMP ALL IN

2) You Own & Control EVERYTHING: With anything in the financial markets, you own and control NOTHING. You have no say in price fluctuations, demand, or what the market will do.

Trying to beat the market is fighting against the tide. There’s just too much working against you, no matter how many supercomputers or rocket scientists are on your side.

With Digital Leasing, you own the assets, which means you have all the power and all the control.

TESTIMONIAL - Feeling Blessed

3) Little To No Startup Costs: It’s possible to get into Digital Leasing with zero dollars upfront.

Because, using the strategies outlined in this program, you can get a client to pay you BEFORE spending a penny out of your own pocket...even before you do any work.

TESTIMONIAL - Scott Lead Gen

Even without getting paid in advance, you can have your first Digital Rental Property up, running, and generating profits for less than $100.

Lance Lead Gen

  1. Easy To Duplicate: Ok, here’s the best part: once you have your first Digital Rental Property up and running, you can literally DOUBLE your income with a few clicks, a couple keystrokes, and a single phone call (and you don’t actually need the phone call).

Remember: each Digital Rental Property is worth $500 to $2,000 a month in semi-passive income (over 95% profit). Every time you decide to create another one and increase your income, it gets easier.

Because you have more knowledge, more experience, more results, and more momentum.

If you wanted to double your income with any kind of trading or investing, you’d have to double your initial capital OR double the average order size of your existing trades. And, guaranteed that’s a lot harder than a few clicks and a few minutes of your life.

TESTIMONIAL - Done Deal

5) Make Money Helping Real People: This part is what makes it all worth it. In the financial markets, you might be helping your family, but the impact never goes beyond you and maybe a few others.

But with Digital Leasing, you’re actually helping people by solving your clients’ biggest problem:

Small, local businesses need more customers, and with Digital Leasing, you are unleashing a flood of happy, paying customers for these businesses.

You make money by helping them make money.

Not a big, faceless corporation either...a small business owner who’s using that money to put food on the table for their family, start a college fund for their kids, or take care of a sick parent.

Once you see how Digital Leasing makes a real impact in the lives of real people, you’ll sleep like a baby with a big smile on your face.

BOSS OF MY FUTURE

Now, the choice is yours. You could continue browsing, looking at opportunities like Base Camp Trading which could one day make you money.

You could continue researching, never making a decision.

OR, you could take a look inside, consider what you really want, and join a program that makes your dreams a reality. At the same time, joining a community of over 2,000 successful students that are living life on their own terms thanks to Digital Leasing.

A consistent, reliable, semi-passive stream of income that doesn’t depend on you or your time to keep producing profits.

All while genuinely helping real people who are grateful and happy to pay for it.

If this sounds more like what you want out of life (or if you just want some nice side income), click here to learn more about Digital Leasing.
